The Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Diagnostics was established in July 2025 as a result of the reorganization of the research laboratory. The laboratory traces its history back to 2001, when a new division, the PCR diagnostics group, was organized in the Research Laboratory of the State Educational Institution "Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education" (hereinafter - the BelMAPE Research Institute). The main area of scientific activity of the PCR diagnostics group was the study of molecular genetic factors of the development of various pathological conditions of infectious and non-infectious origin. This scientific area was headed by S.A. Kostyuk, who successfully defended her doctoral thesis in 2010 on the issues of clinical laboratory diagnostics of sexually transmitted infections associated with HIV. Under the guidance of Kostyuk S.A., the laboratory staff of Rudenkov T.V. (2017), Poluyan O.S. (2019) and Glinkina T.V. (2024) successfully defended their PhD theses.

Laboratory staff

Poluyan Olga Sergeevna – Leading Researcher, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor
Rudenkova Tatiana Vladimirovna – Leading Researcher, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor

Methods and techniques of clinical and experimental research:

  • Qualitative analysis of DNA in biological material by PCR with electrophoretic detection scheme;
  • Qualitative and/or quantitative analysis of DNA in biological material by real-time PCR;
  •  Qualitative and/or quantitative analysis of gene expression levels by reverse transcription PCR;
  •  Identification of polymorphisms in genes;
  • Determination of nucleotide sequences in genes by sequencing PCR.

The main directions of scientific research activity:

1. Development and introduction into medical practice of new effective and more informative laboratory tests based on the assessment of the individual genetic profile of the patient, analysis of the molecular and genetic characteristics of the human microbiome.

2. Establishment of the molecular and genetic foundations of the etiology and pathogenesis of multifactorial diseases.

3. Development of molecular biological technologies for analyzing the structural features and functional state of genes.

4. Studies of the molecular and biological characteristics of infectious agents.
