History of the Scientific Research Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine

The history of the Research Laboratory (formerly the Central Research Laboratory; renamed 07/01/2012 on the basis of the order of the Rector of BelMAPE No. 410 dated 04/30/2012) began in 1957, when a group of three people was created, which had at its disposal an experimental unit and a morphological laboratory. In 1959, a vivarium was organized, and the experimental group was transformed into an experimental production laboratory. The basis for the creation of the Central Research Laboratory was the order of the Ministry of Health of the USSR dated January 24, 1972 No. 52. Since 1987, the Scientific Research Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as the SRL) has been located in a five-storey building in a complex with a two–storey vivarium in the village of Lesnoy.

The structural organization of the laboratory was based on the methodological principle, according to which the following scientific divisions and groups were formed: experimental modeling of pathological and pathophysiological processes, morphological, hematological, biochemical, immunological and PCR diagnostic methods. Since 2017, as a result of the reorganization, the organizational structure of the SRL includes: the Department of Metabolic Diagnostics, the Department of General Pathology, the Department of Immunology and Biomedical Technologies, the group of PCR diagnostics, the group of thyroidology, the group of scientific methodology and biomedical statistics.

Since 1976, the pathomorphological direction has been headed by Professor I.A. Shved, who created a new direction in pathomorphology and orthopedics for the study of anomalies of the musculoskeletal system for the study of congenital limb anomalies in children, and for the first time in the world revealed the general patterns of morphogenesis of limb anomalies and their anatomical structures.

The Pathophysiological Group, as an experimental unit, was one of the first scientific units on the basis of which the Research Laboratory was founded. The pathophysiological group was headed by such scientists as E.A. Rimzha, Doctor of Medicine (2002-2006), and N.N. Veyalkina, Candidate of Biological Sciences (2006-2015). Since 2017, the pathophysiological, hematological and pathomorphological groups have become part of the Department of General Pathology, which is headed by T.E. Vladimirskaya, Candidate of Biological Sciences, whose research interests include studying the features of apoptotic cell death in humans and experimental animals, researching pathophysiological disorders in simulated pathological conditions of various origins in animals, and developing methods for the lifetime diagnosis of fatal complications. stenting operations in coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis.

The Immunological group was established in 1970 and was initially located at the Department of Neuropathology. After the commissioning of the educational and laboratory building, the group was located in the SRL. From 1970 to 2006, the head of the group was a leading researcher, Candidate of Medical Sciences Laput K.N. The immunological direction has been headed by Doctor of Medicine, Associate Professor M.M. Zafranskaya since 2006. Under her leadership, cellular technologies are being developed, the regulatory effect of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on the course of the autoimmune process in multiple sclerosis is being studied, the functioning of pathogenetically significant minor cell populations - B1 lymphocytes and T lymphocytes, IgA glycosylation processes, proliferative and phenotypic characteristics of mesangial cells of the renal glomeruli is being studied. Under the supervision of M.M. Zafranskaya, D.B. Nizhegorodova (2009) and M.Y. Yurkevich (2015) defended their PhD theses. Currently, young employees of the Department of Immunology and Biomedical Technologies S.S. Kulinich (scientific supervisor – Professor Yu.M. Gain) and A.Y. Adamovich (scientific supervisor – Associate Professor M.M. Zafranskaya) are candidates for the degree of Candidate of Biological Sciences.

In 2020, under the leadership of M.M. Zafranskaya, the Stem Cell Immunobiology scientific school was registered (registration number 6/2016/3).

From 1991 to 1999, biochemical research at the SRL was headed by Professor Danilchik V.S., isotope research by Candidate of Medical Sciences Kovalenko Yu.D. The Department of Metabolic Diagnostics has been headed by Senior researcher T.M. Yuraga since 2017. The department conducts research on the structural analysis of macromolecular (proteins, lipids) and low molecular weight (metal ions) metabolites involved in the pathogenesis of chronic non-infectious human pathology (urolithiasis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, etc.), human bioelement homeostasis, antioxidant activity of human biological samples and food products.

In February 2001, a group of PCR diagnostics was organized. The main focus of which is to study the molecular genetic factors of the development of various pathological conditions of infectious and non-infectious origin. The curator of this scientific area is Doctor of Medicine, Professor S.A. Kostyuk, who successfully defended her doctoral thesis in 2010 on the issues of clinical laboratory diagnostics of sexually transmitted infections associated with HIV. Under the guidance of Kostyuk S.A., Rudenkova T.V. (2017) and Poluyan O.S. defended their PhD theses. (2019), PhD thesis is being completed by researcher Glinkina T.V.

The heads of the SRL were Professor M.P. Kravtsov (1972-1975), Professor V.V. Gorbachev (1975-1985), Associate Professor, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences M.N. Romanchak (1986-1999), Professor, Doctor of Medicine G.Y. Hulup (1999-2004), Associate Professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences I.V. Tarasyuk (2004-2011), Candidate of Medical Sciences Luschik M.L. (2011-2015), Doctor of Medicine, Professor Gonchar A.A. (2015-2016), from 2016 to was headed by Candidate of Biological Sciences Manaeva N.A.

As a result of the reorganization of BelMAPE on 09/29/2023 by joining the educational institution Belarusian State Medical University (hereinafter referred to as the University) (Ministry of Health Order No. 634 dated 05.05.2023 "On the Reorganization of Institutions" as amended by Order No. 803 dated 05/31/2023), the SRL became part of the University's Research Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine.

Since 07/01/2025, as a result of the merger of the research unit and the research laboratory (Order No. 6 dated 01/3/2025 "On the introduction of the structure of the educational institution Belarusian State Medical University and Amendments to the staffing table") The E&CM Research Institute includes the following laboratories:
