Currently, the department's team is a group of like-minded individuals working under the professional motto "Perfect Your Individuality." The department employs 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 4 senior lecturers, and 2 assistants. They successfully carry out educational, methodological, scientific, and clinical consulting work at clinical bases in Minsk.
The task of organizing the team's work and heading the department was entrusted to Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Lyudmila Nikolaevna Dedova, as her Candidate and Doctoral dissertations are dedicated to issues of clinical periodontology. L.N. Dedova is the founder of the school of periodontology in the Republic of Belarus. She is a professional, a person of high culture, characterized by relentless creative pursuit, inexhaustible diligence, and an active civic stance. Professor Lyudmila Nikolaevna Dedova is the Chair of the Belarusian Republican Public Association of Dental Specialists, the founder and editor-in-chief of the scientific-practical journal "Stomatolog" (Dentist), a member of editorial boards of several journals in neighboring and distant countries, served as a member of the Dissertation Council for Dentistry at the Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU), and was an expert in dentistry for the Higher Attestation Commission (VAK) of the Republic of Belarus. For her fruitful many years of work, L.N. Dedova has been repeatedly awarded with distinctions: "Excellence in Healthcare of the Republic of Belarus," "For Significant Personal Contribution to the Development of Minsk State Medical Institute-BSMU"; honorary medals: from Saint Petersburg State Medical University, "Honored Physician of the Eurasian Union of States"; a commemorative clock from BSMU; honorary diplomas and certificates: "Honorary Certificate" from the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus (2021), "For Many Years of Diligent Work and High Professional Skill in the Sphere of Healthcare" from a Member State of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as from the Presidium of the Republican Committee of the Belarusian Trade Union of Healthcare Workers, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, and the Belarusian State Medical University. For her "Outstanding Contribution to Modern Society," the American Bibliographical Institute awarded her the title "Woman of the Year" (1998). Since 2008, she has been a full member of the International Academy of Dentists (IAD). She has published over 400 scientific works, holds 44 inventions and 40 rationalization proposals, and has delivered more than 400 presentations on periodontology, including in neighboring and distant countries.
An active SSC (Student Scientific Club) operates at the department. Students from the 1st to the 5th year of the Dental Faculty participate in the SSC’s work. By collaborating with medical universities in Italy, Russia, China, and CIS countries, students take part in international competitions, where they have repeatedly won prizes.
The Department of Periodontology of BSMU, together with the Belarusian Republican Public Association of Dental Specialists, are the organizers of Republican scientific-practical seminars and conferences such as "The Day of High Dentistry in the Republic of Belarus" and "The International Congress on Dental Implantology and the Forum of Dentists of Belarus and Russia."
