The implementation of moral principles and skills in the field of social and interpersonal relations, psychological culture and communication competencies occurs when students are involved in the volunteer movement. Why is it important to be involved in volunteering today? The volunteer movement helps to develop the social and personal qualities of each participant (compassion, mercy, adaptation to the social environment, communication and creativity).
There are hundreds of options and projects for volunteering in the Department of Epidemiology. Each of them is original and interesting in its own way.
In 2016 at the department for the first time a volunteer group was created under the guidance of Associate Professor T.E. Dorojenkova, which consisted of motivated, proactive and caring students of the 4th and 5th year of the Preventive Medicine Faculty. The group carries out its activities within the framework of the volunteer movement organized at the faculty in accordance with the project «On the way to good health» with the chosen direction «About vaccinations and not only». The members from the volunteer group have a pile of symbols (emblem and motto: «Scientia potentia est» or «Knowledge is power»).
During this time, volunteers have successfully organized and held meetings with students from the Minsk and Minsk Region schools.
Students use a variety of techniques and forms of information material presentation, including a presentation, videos, quizzes, crosswords, posters, etc. for a better information presentation and trusting contact with children. Many difficult questions from students and teachers, as well as examples from personal life, confirmed the relevance of the selected topics and the need to expand the listeners audience.
In 2019, thanks to the volunteers of the Department of Epidemiology, an event dedicated to the annual campaign dedicated to World AIDS Day was held at the Minsk National Airport. An information campaign was carried out among the passengers and employees of the enterprise: leaflets and brochures were distributed everywhere, as well as videos on this topic were broadcast. The action was aimed at the formation of the necessary knowledge about HIV infection and AIDS, the ways of transmission of the disease and national, medical and personal preventive measures (https://airport.by/news/1663). Information desks were installed in the departure and arrival areas of the airport, where everyone could receive detailed advice from volunteers and sanitary service specialists. Also, within the framework of the campaign, an introductory conversation was held for the employees of the enterprise, dedicated to the issues of this disease.
For those who want to join the ranks of volunteers, we say: «Join us. You will have a unique opportunity to express yourself, convey information, captivate and interest the audience in a preventive direction!»
