The main areas of research include the following: fundamental pharmacology; pharmacology of enzymatic generation of reactive oxygen species and associated pathological processes; experimental psycho- and neuropharmacology; development of new methods for searching drugs in silico and experiment. Co-author of 10 medicines for various purposes based on amino acids, adaptogens, immunomodulators, author and co-author of more than 150 scientific papers, 16 patents for inventions. Scientific supervisor of several major scientific projects and dissertation research.

He made a significant contribution to the development of a number of theoretical and practical issues of radiation pharmacology and radiobiology, in particular, he revealed the mechanism of development of cerebral forms of radiation injuries, created drugs for prevention and protection of the brain in case of damage by neutron weapons. For these works in 1991 he received the USSR State Prize. Awarded the medal 'For Labor Prowess' (1984). Author of over 400 scientific works. He has trained 20 candidates and 4 doctors of sciences.

Ph.D. thesis on the topic «Features of metabolic activity of macrophages and components of lung surfactant in patients with sarcoidosis” was defended in 2001. Current research interests are related to the study of the molecular mechanisms of the bronchopulmonary dysplasia development and the prevention of the toxic hyperoxia effects on the lungs in newborns. Author and co-author of more than 190 scientific papers and educational guides, 5 invention patents.

In 1981 he graduated from BSU, Biological Faculty, Biochemistry Department and was sent to work at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences. In 1988, he entered the full-time postgraduate course of the Academy of Sciences in the specialty 'pharmacology', where he was engaged in the search for new low-molecular bioregulators based on modified analogues of steroids under the guidance of the head of the Department of Bio-testing of IBOH Professor B.B. Kuzmitsky. The conducted research made it possible, in collaboration with colleagues, to substantiate the design, synthesize and develop an experimental batch of the tablet preparation 'trimeson'. It was intended to minimize the damaging effects of radiation exposure after the Chernobyl accident. In 1991 he defended his PhD thesis 'Immunotropic activity of derivatives of 8-aza-D-homogonan' in the Scientific Council of the Smolensk State Medical Institute, specialty 'pharmacology'.

In 2012, she defended her master's thesis on the topic “Structural determinants of antioxidant action of coumarin derivatives and benzoic acid” (scientific adviser – Professor Bisunok N.A.). The main directions of scientific activity: the study of the mechanisms of generation of active forms of oxygen by cells of humans and animals, finding and exploring new antioxidant compounds.
