Research and expert activity of Pharmacology

Scientific work is carried out in the direction of research and development of new drugs based on chemical substances and herbal medicinal raw materials.

Over the past decades, the staff of the Department of Pharmacology, together with the Laboratory of Experimental Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Central Scientific Research Laboratory of the Belarusian State Medical University and the Medical Radiological Research Center (Russia), carried out a large amount of work within such State Scientific and Technical Programs as “Medicines” (1999-2004), “Amino acids” (2002-2004), “New medicines” (2004-2006), “Pharmtechnology” (2010-2011), “Interdisciplinary research, new emerging technologies as a basis for sustainable development (Convergence)” (2012-2014),“Medicine and pharmacy” (2016-2020; 2021-2025).

In the research laboratory of the Department of Pharmacology

With a highly qualified staff, the Department of Pharmacology takes an active part in the implementation of the state policy of the Republic of Belarus in the field of drug safety - the development, testing, registration of drugs, the formation of a regulatory framework. Scientific research of the department is intensively developing in new directions, including combinatorial pharmacology, redox pharmacology, psychopharmacology, pharmacology of osteo- and chondrogenesis.

Main directions of scientific activity:

• Experimental research of the pharmacological correction of neurodegenerative processes, depressive conditions, pain syndrome with the further development of new neuroprotectors, antidepressants, analgesics and experimentally substantiated recommendations for the clinical use of combination of these drugs.
• Fundamental studies of the methodology for studying the specific activity of drug combinations.

The procedure for defending a thesis in the specialty “Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology”

During the period 2000-2020 at the Department of Pharmacology were completed 4 ScD theses, 14 PhD theses and 8 master's theses. During this period, the staff of the department received 22 patents for inventions, developed and implemented 4 rationalization proposals.

Keeping the best traditions of the Belarusian school of pharmacologists, the department implements modern approaches to the training of medical and pharmaceutical personnel, develops a number of fundamental and applied areas of scientific research in Belarus.

The department carries out creative interaction with a number of scientific centers of the Republic of Belarus: the Belarusian State University, the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Institute of Physical and Organic Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Belarusian Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, Vitebsk State Medical University, actively cooperates with the Medical Radiological scientific center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, enterprises of the pharmaceutical industry in Belarus.

1. “Research of pharmacological approaches to the management of oxidative stress caused by NOX-dependent generation of reactive oxygen species in cells”, 2013-2015;
2. “Experimental development of the psychotropic drugs combinations”, 2012-2016;
3. “Experimental development of an original technology for creating new combined drugs”, 2017-2021;
4. “Development of new methods to increase the effectiveness of anticancer drugs using omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids” (in creative collaboration with the Belarusian State University), 2019-2021;
5. “Predicting the outcome of spontaneous childbirth in full-term pregnancy” (in a creative alliance with the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education), 2019-2021.
