Comprehensive development of the personality is very important therefore much attention is paid to educational work in our department. Small talks with students are held in each academic group where the main events in the world and in the country are discussed: medicine, culture and sports achievements. Also teaching stuff underlines the importance of the issues of deontology and medical ethics. This allows students to develop the ability to objectively assess current world and local news, as well as to remind them of respect for our country, their profession, and understanding of their place in life.
A scientific-practical conference «Actual Problems of the Modern Medicine» is held annually among students and young scientists as part of the educational process in our university. Participants selected by the jury present the results of their research at the republican contest of student papers. This motivates them to study advanced problems of dentistry, and also contributes to the development of analytical thinking.
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry carries out several volunteer programs. «Healthy Smile» is a project where students teach preschool and primary school children how to take care of the oral cavity in a game form, as well as choosing healthy diet.
The international project «Special Smiles» is a part of the program «Special Olympics». Teaching stuff of the department together with students-volunteers examine the oral cavity of children-athletes with mental disabilities. Young doctors with the help of bright visual aids and toys teach children how to brush their teeth thoroughly and correctly.
The Olympiad with international participation is held every year for students of the 4th and 5th year. Participants should pass two stages: firstly, they are invited to enter theoretical quiz concerning all sections of pediatric dentistry, and then best candidates perform clinical examination and treatment of children living in a family-type orphanage - «SOS-Children's Village Maryina Gorka».
A good tradition at our department is the supervision of 3rd year students of the Faculty of Dentistry. While visiting theaters, cinemas and museums, academic stuff has an excellent opportunity to show students by their own example that not only brilliant academic success, cultural enrichment and the establishment of friendly and trusting relationships in the team are also very important.
