The Student Scientific Club links students interested in scientific activity, scientists and teachers. It is one of the key student self-government bodies. It brings together active members from all BSMU departments.
Every year, more than 100 students participate in meetings of the student scientific club, where they learn to conduct research, write scholarly articles, discuss the results of their own research, discuss clinical cases
Student scientific work is supervised by all staff of the department. Mentors together with students determine the topics of future research work, help to provide research and translate results into real practice.
Thus, every year, the results of students' research are presented at International Student Conferences both in the Belarusian State Medical University and in other medical universities of the republic, as well as in countries of far and near abroad. In recent years, our students have been laureates of conferences held at Grodno, Gomel and Vitebsk Medical Universities. With great interest they take part in the Olympiads in their specialty.
When holding the final conference of students and young scientists at the BSMU, the department, as a rule, organizes 4 sectional sessions, which are led by professors, where more than 50 reports are heard on modern obstetric and gynecological problems. The most successful presentations are subsequently printed in collections of students' scientific works and submitted to republican and international competitions, where, as a rule, our students receive the highest grade points. 70 students' papers are published annually in the form of articles and abstracts. An important event for all circle members is the annual Republican competition of students' scientific works, to which up to 35 works are submitted, many of them were awarded categories I-III.
The head of the department encourages students who are actively involved in scientific activities and have a high score, recommendations for future specialization as obstetricians and gynecologists, and subsequently for clinical residency and postgraduate studies in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology.
The tasks of the circle
- To replenish and acquire knowledge in the basic disciplines of the specialty (obstetrics and gynecology) at a qualitatively new level
- Expand knowledge in related disciplines (neonatology, clinical pharmacology, dermatovenerology, urology, medical genetics, gynecological oncology, resuscitation and intensive care)
- Improve practical skills in obstetrics and gynecology
- Learn to work with scientific medical literature and electronic databases of biomedical literature
- To carry out research work in the specialty under the guidance of the teacher of the department
- Master the skills: correct statistical processing of the results of scientific work, analysis of medical records, construction of a scientific report, preparation of a scientific publication
Areas of activity of the Council of People's Commissars:
- Hearing and discussion of student reports, reports of practicing doctors of obstetricians-gynecologists and doctors of related specialties, as well as health organizers, professors of the department; joint analysis of clinical cases
- Organization of master classes on the basis of the “Laboratory of practical training of BSMU”
- Conducting a series of reports with a practical bias “School of ultrasound diagnostics in obstetrics and gynecology”
- Organization of participation and preparation of students for republican and international Olympiads on the basis of SNK of operative surgery and topographic anatomy in the section “Operative gynecology”
- Preparing students for the annual conference of the APSMiF, for the Republican competition of scientific research work and assistance in the publication of student works in conference proceedings, scientific journals
- Conducting a volunteer movement in the person of the “Juno” detachment
- Online broadcast in the Vkontakte group of the most significant conferences, symposia, master classes held on topics directly related to or close to obstetrics and gynecology
The structure of the scientific circle
Meetings are held once a month, every Tuesday at 18.00 at the specified address. The agenda of the meeting is published in 7-10 days on the pages of VKontakte of the Student Scientific Society of the BSMU (vk.com/snobsmu) and the SNK of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the BSMU (vk.com/gynecology_bsmu), as well as on the website of the SNO BSMU. Printed announcements are posted at the designated time on the cathedral stand.
