The teaching is based on the curriculums approved by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. The staff of the Department of Medical and Biological Physics includes professor, associate professors, senior lecturers, assistants and laboratory assistants.
Currently, the Department of Medical and Biological Physics conducts classes with the 1st and 2nd year students of the Faculties of General Medicine, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, Dentistry, Military Medicine, Pharmacy, Career Guidance and Pre-University Training and the Medical Faculty for International Students, as well as with the postgraduates and clinical residents.
List of disciplines taught by the department:
- «Medical and Biological Physics», «Informatics in Medicine», «Human Life Safety» (section «Fundamentals of Energy Saving») for students of the Faculties of General Medicine, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, Dentistry, Military Medicine and the Medical Faculty for International Students;
- «Biological Physics», «Medical Informatics», «Human Life Safety» (section «Fundamentals of Energy Saving») for students of the Faculty of Pharmacy;
- «Physics», «Mathematics» and «Introduction to Medical Physics» for the international students of the Faculty of Career Guidance and Pre-University Training;
- «Fundamentals of Information Technologies» for the postgraduates and clinical residents.
There are different forms of study: lectures, seminars and laboratory classes. The training is organized using traditional and modern educational and information resources (computer presentations of lectures and laboratory exercises), interactive resources in the local computer network of the BSMU and the Internet.
To conduct the educational process, the department has laboratories and computer labs equipped with modern computer technology and multimedia equipment. The active use of multimedia equipment makes it possible to conduct classes in special disciplines at a high scientific and methodological level. Laboratories, lecture and reading halls are equipped with the necessary devices to conduct high quality classes and are available to students at any time.
Medical and Biological Physics and Biological Physics
Discipline «Medical and Biological Physics» is aiming at development of novel applications of physical processes and techniques in various areas of medicine. During the classes on «Medical and biological physics» and «Biological physics» students
- carry out laboratory works with the medical equipment use;
- study the physical properties of biological tissues and the effect of physical fields on them;
- learn the principles of obtaining images of organs and tissues with the help of ultrasound, thermal radiation, X-rays;
- learn to correctly present the data obtained in the form of tables and graphs and how to properly formulate conclusions.
Practical training complemented by situational tasks and the use of statistical methods for processing biomedical information. The teachers of the department introduce students to the peculiarities of operating medical equipment, common safety procedures, international ethical standards and the necessity for statistical processing of medical data.
Training the students of the Faculties of General Medicine, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, Military Medicine occurs during the 1st semester with 4 lectures and 19 laboratory classes and during the 2nd semester with 3 lectures and 18 laboratory classes. The following forms are used for competences assessment:
- Oral form: reports on seminars.
- Written form: tests, written laboratory reports, essays.
- Oral-written form: credit, report on practical homework tasks and their oral defense.
- Technical form: electronic tests.
Current assessment is carried out according to the curriculum of the specialty in the form of a credit (2nd semester) for the students of the Faculties of General Medicine, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, Military Medicine and in the form of exam for the students of the Faculties of Dentistry and Pharmacy.
Medical Informatics and Informatics in Medicine
The aim of teaching and learning the disciplines «Medical Informatics» and «Informatics in Medicine» is to provide the student with the scientific knowledge about the use of the modern information technologies as a mean that will enable them to solve biomedical tasks at a high professional level.The following forms are used for competences assessment:
- Oral form: oral questioning, oral credits.
- Technical form: electronic workshop.
Human life safety (section «Fundamentals of energy saving»)
The aim of teaching and learning the discipline «Human Life Safety» (section «Fundamentals of Energy Saving») is to acquire knowledge on different types of energy sources, technologies of its production and consumption, and form a professional approach to the tasks of ecological use of energy and energy saving.
Mathematics. Physics. Introduction to Medical and Biological Physics
