From the first years of operation of the Department of Surgical Dentistry of the Minsk State Medical Institute, much attention was paid to the student scientific circle. At this time, the work of the student scientific circle was led by the head of the department of surgical dentistry, associate professor Tamara Vasilievna Fokina, and then associate professor Alexei Nikiforovich Vasilenko.
New perspectives for the development of student scientific research have been received since 1979, when Professor Oleg Porfirevich Chudakov became the head of the Department of Surgical Dentistry (nowadays, maxillofacial surgery). Responsible for the work of the SNK department during this period was the assistant Konstantin Arkadyevich Zhdanko. Many students of the circle, trained at this time, are now engaged in teaching and research work. This is Professor A.S. Lastovka, associate professors L.I. Tesevich, S.F. Khomich.
To replace K.A. Zhdanko, the assistant, candidate of medical sciences (now associate professor) Alicia Zbignevna Barmutskaya came to lead the SNK department. From 1997 to 1999 Head of the SNK of the department associate professor Alexander Sergeevich Lastovka, from 1999 to 2018. the head of research work was assistant professor Stanislav Fadeevich Khomich. Since 2018, the person responsible for the work of the student scientific circle of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is the candidate of medical sciences, assistant Pavlov Oleg Mikhailovich.

- salivary gland microsurgery
- outpatient maxillofacial surgery

- history of science and organization of maxillofacial surgery service
- diseases of the nerves of the face and jaws
The number of students engaged in research work at the department is 14.

Every month, meetings of the SNK of the department are held, where reports of teachers and students on topical issues of maxillofacial surgery are heard, and master classes are also held at the department. Multimedia technology is used.
