Five reports prepared by the Department of Ophthalmology, one report prepared by the Department of Anatomy, two diplomas - the result of the participation of representatives of Belarusian State Medical University in a conference in Moscow
On the 21st – 22th of February, the was held the V Anniversary All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation “Treatment of Glaucoma: Innovation Vector – 2025”, which took place in Moscow. Leading specialists from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan discussed current issues of early diagnosis, management, and an integrated approach to medical and surgical treatment of patients with various forms of glaucoma. Particular attention was paid to secondary glaucoma, approaches to its conservative, laser and surgical treatment.
“Live surgery” of glaucoma gave a bright accent to the start of the forum. And the conference was solemnly opened by the Deputy General Director for Scientific Work of the Federal State Autonomous Institution “National Medical Research Center “Interindustry Scientific and Technical Complex “Eye Microsurgery” named after Academician S. N. Fedorov”” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Honored Doctor of Russia, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Nazir Khodjaev, who especially emphasized the importance of international cooperation, mutual exchange of experience in the areas of early diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the organ of vision. Nazir Khodzhaev expressed special words of support to young scientists who are conducting research in ophthalmology.
The chief freelance ophthalmologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, head of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Institute of Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel of Belarusian State Medical University, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Tatyana Imshenetskaya, who was the honorary guest of the forum, also gave a welcoming speech.
...During the conference, there were held sectional sessions: “Live surgery”, “Laser technologies in the treatment of glaucoma”, “Minimally invasive technologies in glaucoma surgery”, “Combined glaucoma surgery”, “Fundamental and morphological aspects of the pathogenesis of glaucoma, immunodiagnosis”, “Diagnostics of glaucoma: methods, approaches and nuances”, “Discussion club of young scientists”, “Glaucoma is a problem without borders”, “Meeting of ophthalmologists of Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus”, “Our experience is the son of difficult mistakes: section of clinical cases”, “Surgical treatment of secondary glaucoma: tactics, postoperative management”, “Rational therapy of glaucoma”, “Glaucoma and pathology of the ocular surface”. There was also held an “Interactive poster section”.
This forum also included satellite symposiums: “Laser against glaucoma: cell-selective methods of treating glaucoma”, “Healaflow gel drainage: expanding the possibilities of glaucoma surgery”, “Features of application and prospects for universal micropulse laser treatment”.
The co-chairman and speaker at the meeting of ophthalmologists from Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan “Glaucoma - a problem without borders” was Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Tatyana Imshenetskaya. The topic of her report is “Secondary glaucoma after vitreoretinal surgery - can it be avoided?”
At the meeting “Our experience is the son of difficult mistakes: section of clinical cases,” Galina Vashkevich, Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel of the Belarusian State Medical University, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, was the co-chair and speaker. She presented the scientific report “Differential diagnosis of ophthalmic hypertension in carotid-cavernous anastomosis (series of clinical cases).”
At the sectional meeting “Surgical treatment of secondary glaucoma: tactics, postoperative management”, Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Olga Yarmak acted as a co-chair and speaker. The topic of her report was: “Our tactics for treating infectious complications in secondary glaucoma surgery.”

Robert Ermolkevich, an ophthalmologist at the health care institution “10th City Clinical Hospital” in Minsk, a PhD Candidate of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel, participated in the meeting “Discussion Club of Young Scientists” as a co-chairman and speaker. His report “Treatment of secondary glaucoma in adult patients with Coats retinitis using a clinical case example” was awarded a diploma for 2nd place by the authoritative jury.
Anna Igorevna Yakubenko, a PhD Candidate of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel, took part in the “Interactive Poster Section,” whose report was awarded by the 1st place. And the author was awarded a diploma.
At the meeting “Glaucoma - a problem without borders”, the scientific report “OCT biomarkers of progression of myopia and primary open-angle glaucoma” was made by Associate Professor of the Department of Anatomy of Belarusian State Medical University, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Yulia Guseva.
As a result, at the international forum in Moscow, the Republic of Belarus presented five reports offline, prepared at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel, and one report at the Department of Anatomy of Belarusian State Medical University. At the same time, two scientific works were awarded by diplomas.
The Vth Anniversary All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation “Treatment of Glaucoma: Innovative Vector - 2025” brought together more than 600 medical specialists offline, including speakers, and over 1 thousand participants joined them online. There were held active discussions, as well as the future vector of development of approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma were determined.
And in conclusion: international cooperation and exchange of experience is the key to increasing the efficiency and quality of medical care to the population of the Republic of Belarus. At the same time, all principles of diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma correspond to the advanced trends presented at the conference by the speakers.
