Date of creation of the 2nd Department of Hospital Surgery - 1963. The clinical base of the department was the 2nd city clinical hospital. In the early 80s, the department changed its name and became known as the 2nd Department of Surgical Diseases. The first head the department was Greiman Alexander Abramovich (1963–1970). The main problems studied at that time were “Endemic goiter”, “Surgical treatment of diseases of the abdominal organs”, “Treatment of shock”. For the next 7 years (1970–1977), the head of the department was Leonid Vikentievich Avdey. At this time, scientific activity was aimed at studying surgical methods of treating the pathology of the hepatopanreatobiliary system, scintific work was directed to the diagnosis of surgical diseases, incl. using equipment with fiber optics. Avdey L. V. on the basis of the 2nd clinical hospital in Minsk organized a department of surgical hepatology (1970), which became the Republican scientific and practical center for the study of surgical methods of treatment of pathology of the hepatobiepatobiliary system.
From 1977 to 1978 the head of the department was Associate Professor Vasily Iosifovich Kosmachev. The main directions of the department's work were the issues of studying diseases of the hepatopancreatobiliary zone, as well as issues of surgical gastroenterology. In 1978-1987 the department was headed by Astapenko Vadim Grigorievich, whose interests were “The problem of surgical treatment of toxic goiter”, “Surgical treatment of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer”, “Problems of treatment of portal hypertension.”
Filipovich Nikolay Evstafievich became the head of the department. He worked on the problem of surgical care for patients with gastroduodenal bleeding, as well as on the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatitis. Introduced into clinical practice minimally invasive methods under ultrasound control for the treatment of complications of acute pancreatitis and purulent lesions of the liver and spleen. Since 1995, the 2nd Department of Surgical Diseases is headed by the Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor S.I. Tretiak.
Currently, among the staff of the department there is 3 professors (Tretyak S.I., Shott V.A., Khryshchanovich V.Y), 6 associate professors (Kozlov V.G., Sinilo S.B., Baranov E.V., Bolshov A.V., Zhura A.V., Buravskiy A.V.), and 3 assistants (Solomonova G.A., Romanovich A.V., Ahmad Y.A.). The staff of the department have academic degrees: 3 - doctors of medical sciences, 8 - candidates of medical sciences. The main areas of scientific activity of the department at present are transplantation, cell technologies, surgery of the hepatopancreatobiliary zone, abdominal surgery, minimally invasive interventions, endocrine surgery.
