The 1st Department of Surgical Diseases includes 6 surgical departments (290 beds) of the 10th Clinical Hospital in Minsk. Practical exercises are held in the classrooms and lecture halls located in the hospital. Teaching is carried out by teachers with extensive experience in practical work, modern surgical operations and interventions. Every year the staff of the department performs about 1500 operations, consults more than 2500 patients, performs elective and emergency consulting trips to regions and cities of the country.
The staff of the department provides daily medical care based on the university clinic and the surrounding polyclinics. They perform the most complex and high-tech operations on the organs of the thoracic and abdominal cavities, vessels, organs of the retroperitoneal space, carry out planned and emergency visits to the regions, rounds, and examinations of patients in the surgical departments of the clinic. The Republican Center for Pancreatology, the City Center “Diabetic Foot”, and the City Center for Thoracic Surgery operate based on the departments of the university clinic.
The 1st Department of Surgical Diseases operates as part of the Faculty of Medicine and teaches the discipline “Surgical Diseases” (4, 5, 6 courses). In this discipline, the department is the leading one for graduates. Teaching is carried out in specialty 1-79 01 01 “General Medicine”.
