Since December 2013, the Department has created the «Scientific school of prosthpdontic dentists of the Republic of Belarus with scientific interests: prosthpdontic treatment of periodontal diseases; complex treatment of anomalies and deformities of the dental system in the formed bite; laser technologies, mathematical modeling and holographic research in dentistry». The founders of scientific-pedagogical schools and its leaders are: Velichko Leonid Stepanovich., M.D., Professor, Laureate of the BSSR state prize (1986), Honorary doctor of BSMU and Simon Antonovich Naumovich., M.D., Professor.
For the development and creation of new technological processes and equipment for thin-film coating by ion beam irradiation and their application in the national economy of the Republic Professor L. S. Velichko was awarded the title of Laureate of the BSSR State prize (1986) for the development and creation of new technological processes and equipment for thin-film coating by ion-beam processing and their implementation in dental practice in the Republic. Professor Velichko L. S. is also an Honorary doctor of BSMU (2010). Professor L. S. Velichko and N. S. A. awarded silver medals on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding scientist, Professor V. Y. kurlandsky for their personal contribution to our specialty. Also, Professor Velichko L. S. was awarded a gold medal on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding scientist, Professor V. Y. kurlandsky. in 2018, Professor S. A. Naumovich was awarded the Russian government Prize in science and technology in the team of authors.
The Department has completed 7 innovative projects:
- «Develop a quality control system for metal dentures with decorative coating for their certification in the Republic of Belarus and a system for certification of production sites for the production of finished products».
- «Develop and create a laser surgical unit based on a pulse-periodic laser on AIG:Nd with an average power of up to 100 W with light-guide transport of radiation. (Code-'Spear')'»,
- «Treatment of deformities in patients with congenital cleft lip and palate using laser technologies»
- «Develop an automated system for planning and designing bridges for orthopedic operations in dentistry».
- «Develop a method for computer-aided design and optimization of structures of dentoalveolar prostheses and orthodontic devices for anomalies and deformities of the maxillofacial region caused by cleft lips and palate using universal CAD/CAE/SAM / systems».
- «Develop and master in production a device for low-frequency ultrasound therapy. Develop methods for clinical use of the device.».
- «Develop and implement a software package for individual biomechanical analysis of the dental system based on mathematical modeling methods in Republican and regional dental clinics».
Members of the scientific and pedagogical school were active organizers and performers of the Republican scientific program «Dentistry and maxillofacial surgery», and as a result, new materials, equipment and tools were created. Within the framework of the scientific program «Medical and diagnostic technologies», the scientific project «Development of a computer program for optimizing osteotomies of the upper jaw in the complex treatment of patients with congenital cleft lip and palate» (associate Professor Dosta A. N., 2011-2012).
Employees of the Department together with ODO «Titan-dent» (Vitebsk) developed and implemented 3 dental alloys made of precious metals for the needs of dental prosthetics in practical orthopedic dentistry.
Scientific developments are widely implemented in practical health care (38), which are approved by the Ministry of health of the Republic of Belarus as instructions for use in dental practice. Employees of the Department received 150 author's certificates and patents for inventions and utility models, more than 120 certificates for innovation proposals and 14 diplomas of the BSSR VDNH.

The logical conclusion of a large educational and methodological work was the publication of the first national textbook «Prosthpdontic dentistry» in 2 parts (2013, 2014).
In 2019, 2020, the 2nd edition was published, supplemented by the textbook «Prosthpdontic dentistry» in 2 parts.
Standard training programs for the specialty «Orthopedic dentistry» are updated every 5 years and working training programs are updated annually. Members of the scientific school have developed the following training programs for elective courses in the discipline «Orthopedic dentistry»: «Comprehensive treatment of dental anomalies and deformities in adults. Methods for determining the color of teeth», «Fundamentals of functional occlusion» and 'Aesthetic orthopedic dentistry' for 5th year students.
More than 5000 scientific reports have been prepared at symposiums, congresses, international and national scientific and practical conferences.
Members of the scientific school regularly participate in international and national scientific and practical conferences, congresses, symposiums, seminars and are their permanent organizers.
