At the department, much attention is paid to educational work with students, aimed at teaching patriotism, high personal qualities.
The formation of the ideological orientation of the educational process is facilitated by the days of informing and talking with students about the ability of ethics and deontology.
Сurators of student groups and sections in student dormitory # 2 are working to strengthen academic discipline, to teach a responsible attitude towards learning among students. The curators regularly visit the student hostel where they study living conditions and carry out explanatory work on the safety of state property provided for use by students in classrooms and hostels.
Curators, together with students of the supervised groups, participate in actions of active training students in schools and gymnasiums in the city of Minsk in the skills of individual oral hygiene.
For the purpose of aesthetic and cultural education, curators organized cultural trips to theaters, cinemas and museums of Minsk, excursion trips to Vilnius, Kiev, Bialystok.
Curators with students participate in sports events (kayaking trips along the rivers of the Republic of Belarus, bike rides to memorial memorable and historical sites of the Minsk region, etc.).
An innovative form of the pedagogical process and educational work is the annual Olympiad of Professional Skills, in which about 15 finalists of the qualifying round among 2nd year students of the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Medicine of foreign students take part. The Olympiads help to identify students' professional competencies and motivation for professional activity.
The department prepares 1-2 year students of the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Medicine of foreign students in the following areas of dentistry: «Dental materials science», «Functional anatomy of the dentoalveolar system», «Laboratory technology for the manufacture of dentures», «Preclinical dentistry».
The staff of the department developed and approved standard of educational and work programs for the discipline «General Dentistry», programs for dental and nursing practices, an elective course.
The educational process includes lectures, laboratory and practical exercises, seminars, educational dental and industrial nursing practice. Practical classes are held in specially equipped phantom classrooms, where on simulators (phantoms) students learn practical skills in the treatment of various dental diseases using therapeutic and orthopedic methods.
An important place in the process of teaching students is given to modern teaching technologies. At the lectures and practical classes, the teachers of the department widely use multimedia presentations, video films are shown. For the methodological support of the educational process, the staff of the department published over 30 teaching aids.
Within the framework of the innovative project «Computer testing at BSMU» tests have been developed to control the level of theoretical training of students. The preparation of training computer programs is nearing completion.
The department annually holds competitions of professional skills (Olympiads in practical skills) among 2nd year students of the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Medicine of foreign students.
The department conducts postgraduate training of dentists in clinical residency. Since 1997, 23 doctors have been trained in clinical residency.
