History of Occupational Hygiene

Educational, methodical, research and educational work at the Department of Hygiene is constantly being improved, keeping the good traditions of its founders. This allows us to train students, undergraduates, graduate students, improve the qualifications of medical specialists using modern pedagogical and information technologies, taking into account the achievements of modern hygienic science and the current requirements of preventive medicine.

Teaching of occupational and environmental hygiene began at the Minsk State Medical Institute in 1968 after the organization of the Department of Special Hygiene. In 1982 the department of special hygiene was renamed into the department of environmental hygiene with a course of occupational hygiene, since 1986 - the department of occupational hygiene. The department was headed by associate professor Shpilevsky Eduard Mikhailovich (in 1982-1985), associate professor Valentina Sergeevna Bodyako (in 1985-1988), professor Oleshkevich Leonid Alexandrovich (in 1988-2006), since 2006 the department is headed by associate professor Ihar Pavlovich Siamionau.

From the first years of the formation of the department to the present, educational and methodological work is constantly combined with the scientific activities of employees, which allows to improve educational process and to train scientific and pedagogical personnel.
