The students’ scientific circle began its work at the Latin language department in the 80s of the XX century. However, due to the reduced hours, allocated for the Latin language study, the circle stopped its existence for some time and renewed its functioning only in 2003.
For several years, the students’ circle scientific supervisors had been: senior teacher Morozova Irina Gennadievna, Associate Professor Avksenteva Albina Georgievna, Shvaiko Elena Stepanovna.
In different years the circle monitors were: Zhlobovich I.N. (2002-2003 academic year), Komarovskaya A.I. (2003-2004 academic year), Zanko E.V. (2004-2005 academic year), Savitskaya O.S. (2005-2006 academic year), Glebov M.A. (Faculty of General Medicine 2007-2008), Klimovich I.N. (2008-2010 academic year), Shishko Y.A. (2011-2013 academic year)
Main directions:
- history of Latin and Russian terminology;
- the origin of medical terms and their meanings;
- general educational linguistic and cognitive aspects of medical terminology;
- classical language classes to acquire skills in translating medical literature;
- the professional meaning and profiling role of the Latin language at the medical university;
- introduction to ancient culture (holding holidays and thematic conferences).
The previous students’ scientific circle directions were: ancient culture, language and culture, the medicine language, everyday life and ancient time customs, classical languages in the modern communication system, the medicine language and medical terminology peculiarities, the city image as a cultural center, the university cultural mission.
Currently, the students’ scientific circle work is carried out in accordance with the unified fundamental scientific direction of the department “The terminological system of medical business and its functioning in the specialist’s professional discourse” and is devoted to the medicine language studying problems, the medical terminology and medical communication peculiarities.
The traditional types of the students’ scientific circle work remain:
- Reading developmental lectures on the topic variety;
- Writing reports with their subsequent discussion at the circle meetings;
- Report preparation and testing for scientific conferences.
Report on the Latin language breakout session within the 74th scientific and practical conference
On April 16, 2020, the Latin language sectional session was held in the distance format as part of the students and young scientists’ 74th scientific and practical conference “Actual problems of modern medicine and pharmacy – 2020”. 9 scientific work presentations from 9 participants were announced in the section work.
Based on the breakout session results, the following rewards were given to:
- The 1st degree diploma was given the Pediatric faculty 1st year student, group 2103 Loseva Ekaterina Viktorovna, the scientific work “Mimic muscles of the face and human emotions” (Scientific Supervisor: Associate Professor Tsisyk A.Z.).
- The 2nd degree diploma was given to the General Medicine faculty 2nd year student, group 1204 Denis Olegovich Chernooky, the scientific work “The origins of transplantology in the medicine and religion of Ancient Egypt” (Scientific Supervisor: senior teacher Liashkevich A.V.).
- The 3rd degree diplomas were given to the General Medicine faculty1st year student, group 1101 Natalya Viktorovna Kalenskaya, the scientific work “The Image of Ancient Rome in the TV series” Doctor Who “(Scientific Supervisor: senior teacher Pisaruk A.D.) and the Pediatric Faculty 1st year student, group 2105 Aniskevich Anastasia, the scientific work “To the question of the etymology of terms in cell biology” (Scientific Supervisor: Associate Professor Kuznetsova E.L.).
