During its existence, the Department has become a recognized methodological center for teaching terminological Latin in higher and secondary medical educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus. On the Department basis, the Latin language teachers of higher medical educational institutions, as well as medical colleges, were trained.
The Department has developed standard and training programs.
The standard curricula:
- The Latin language for specialties 1-79 01 01 “General Medicine”, 1-79 01 02 “Pediatrics”.
- The Latin language for specialties 1-79 01 03 “Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine”.
- The Latin language for specialties 1-79 01 07 “Dentistry”.

- The Latin language for specialties 1-79 01 03 “Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine”.

- The Latin language for the specialty 1-79 01 01 «General Medicine» (Medical Faculty for International Students);
In order to integrate the Latin language teaching and specialized terminology into the interdisciplinary field, the Latin Language Department has established cooperation with medical-biological and clinical departments in the development of specialized terminology in Latin, Russian, Belarusian and English.
At the Latin Language Department the following subjects are taught.
Currently, the Department provides the two subject teaching:
- The Latin language for specialty 1-79 01 01 “General medicine”, 1-79 01 02 “Pediatrics”, 1-79 01 01 01 “Military Medicine”, 1-79 01 03 “Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine”, 1-79 01 07 “Dentistry”, and also for the students of the Medical Faculty for International Students in the above mentioned specialties, including in English.
- Pharmaceutical Latin for specialties 1-79 01 08 “Pharmacy” of full-time and part-time education forms, as well as for students of the Medical Faculty for International Students in the specialty “Pharmacy”, including those studying in English. For students of the specialty 1-79 01 08 “Pharmacy”, the optional discipline “Unification of Latin group names of pharmaceutical preparations” is taught, as a part of the discipline “Pharmaceutical Latin” teaching.
In accordance with the developed standard curricula, the Department has prepared and published educational publications for institutions providing secondary medical education.
Over the years, the BSMU Latin Language Department has been working closely with the Philology Faculty Classical Philology Department, Belarusian State University. In particular, with the assistance of Associate Professor Tsisyk A.Z., who delivered lectures and conducted special courses and seminars on the disciplines included in the classical philologists’ curriculum, and developed standard curricula and curricula for these disciplines, the department prepared the first four issues of national classical philologists teaching Latin in higher and secondary educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus. Four such specialists successfully work at the BSMU Latin Language Department (N.A.Kruglik, who got PhD in the specialty “Pedagogy”, E.L.Kuznetsova, E.V.Liashkevich, T.P.Mokritskaya).
