One of the most important areas of the department's work is medical activity, currently in charge of Associate Professor S.N. Kozarezov. The main clinical base of the department is 3rd City Children's Hospital. Every year, the staff of the department consults thousands of patients not only in hospitals but also in polyclinics, including patients in the professorial consulting center «Professor». In addition, all employees carry out consulting in «Republican Centre for Organization of Medical Response».
Also, non-staff specialists of Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus are working at the department (Head of the Department, Associate Professor I.I. Savanovich - pediatric gastroenterologist and Associate Professor V.I. Bobrovnichy - pediatric pulmonologist). At the same time, they are the heads of the Republican Children's Center for Celiac Disease and Gastroenterology and the Republican Center for Pediatric Pulmonology and Cystic Fibrosis.
The main developments of the staff of the department, introduced into the work of practical health care:
- Instruction on the procedure for organizing dietary meals (Associate Professor I.I. Savanovich et al.).
- New approaches to the diagnosis and rehabilitation of patients with celiac disease, new methods for assessing morphological changes in the small intestine of children with celiac disease (Associate Professor A.V. Sikorskij, Associate Professor I.I. Savanovich).
- Organization of medical (dietary) nutrition for children with celiac disease (Associate Professor I.I. Savanovich et al.).
- Clinical protocol «Organization of therapeutic nutrition of patients with protein-energy malnutrition» (children), (Associate Professor I.I. Savanovich).

- Clinical classification of nonspecific lung diseases in children (Associate Professor V.I. Bobrovnichy et al.).
- Algorithm of complex dynamic observation of children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (Associate Professor S.N. Kozarezov, Professor T.N. Voitovich).
- Clinical protocol for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with cystic fibrosis, (Associate Professor V.I. Bobrovnichy et al.).

The opening of the Republican Children's Center for Celiac Disease and Gastroenterology made it possible to intensify the work on the identification and treatment of patients with this severe disease in Minsk and in the Republic of Belarus at all. For more than10 years were consulted more than 25,000 patients with various gastroenterological pathology, including those with primary diagnosed celiac disease. The staff of the department introduced new technologies in the treatment of children with severe gastroenterological diseases (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, etc.).
The staff of the department is actively working on updating the register of patients with cystic fibrosis in children in the Republic of Belarus and entering data into the unified European register. The ongoing studies on cystic fibrosis made it possible to discover new links in the pathogenesis of the formation of severe complications in these patients and to determine new approaches to their prevention.
Based on the research and analysis of world experience, the department staff developed approaches to the diagnosis and complex dynamic observation of children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, which made it possible to introduce into the work of the Republican Center for Pediatric Pulmonology and Cystic Fibrosis the rationalization proposal «Algorithm for complex dynamic observation of children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia». Its use made it possible to diagnose the disease in a unified manner and to establish dynamic observation of patients, which ultimately led to the optimization and increase in the efficiency of medical care for children with this severe pathology. Before its implementation, only a few children were observed in the pediatric pulmonary center in Minsk and at the moment they account for more than 40% of all children with chronic bronchopulmonary pathology.
