One of the important sections of the department's work is educational and methodological work. The academic associate professors were: Ten S. I. (from 1989 to 1999), Baranaeva E. A. (from 1999 to 2002) and Grak L. V.( from 2002 to 2019). Since 2020, the deputy head of the department for educational and methodological work is Mikulchik N. V.
During these years, the staff of the department developed and approved training and working programs in medical genetics (for students of the Preventive Medicine, General Medicine and Pediatric faculties), model curricula, training and working programs in pediatrics (for students of the General Medicine, Medical Faculty for International Students and Pediatric faculties, for subordinates of anesthesiologists - resuscitators of Pediatric and General Medicine faculties), training and working programs for clinical residents and interns. The state examination in 3 stages with final testing for students of the Pediatric faculty has been improved.
Within the framework of the innovative project «Computer Testing at BSMU», tests of different difficulty level are being developed for students of 4, 5, 6 courses of the pediatric Faculty, for interns. Elective courses on hereditary lung diseases were created (responsible for it - Associate Professor Bobrovnichy V. The department pays great attention to such form of education as holding Olympiads among students of the Pediatric Faculty in the discipline «pediatrics».
Participation in the Olympiad gives students a huge experience, the opportunity to rise a step higher in the development of their future profession. Winners and participants of student Olympiads subsequently continue their studies in clinical residency, postgraduate studies (Kozarezov S.N., Chisty A.H., etc.).
In the process of teaching students, an important place is given to modern learning technologies. Demonstrative video and DVD material is widely used in lectures and practical classes on endocrinology, neonatology and pediatrics. Employees of the department also create their own video and DVD archive, which is regularly updated and widely used in teaching students.
Associate Professor Savanovich I. I. suggested a creative approach to the study of complex educational material on the cycle «Pediatrics» in the 4th year of the Faculty of Pediatrics: «Choose a rhyme to the key words of the topic Neurotoxicosis». Students of the 463 group of the Pediatrics Faculty have given answers to questions on the topic of classes «Neurotoxicosis» and «Acute rheumatic fever» in the form of poems and an album is designed.
Every year, the department holds 4-6 clinical-theoretical conferences with a demonstration of patients and an analysis of interesting clinical cases, where students independently prepare theoretical material, master the basics of medical and scientific research.
Every year, the department trains 2-3 clinical residents, including foreign clinical residents (Lebanon).
The department pays a lot of attention to the training of interns. Lectures are given on topical issues of pediatrics. Clinical-theoretical conferences, analysis of complex clinical cases are held with the participation of interns. Twice a year, according to the training program, interns are certified using an oral survey, test control, and solving situational problems. Currently, work is being carried out on the preparation of test control and situational tasks for the website for the internship, specialty «Pediatrics», «Neonatology».
