Professors, Associate and Assistant Professors of 1st Department of Children’s diseases perform clinical rounds, consultations and conciliums in supervised departments of clinics (annually about 12 thousand consultations, 2.5 thousand consultations), consultations at outpatient department of National Center for Pediatric nephrology and RRT, National Center for pediatric endocrinology, children’s polyclinics of Minsk city.
Due to the successful implementation of the kidney transplant program in children since April 2009, the priorities in the distribution of patients with end-stage chronic renal failure have significantly changed (an increase in the proportion of patients after kidney transplantation from 20.5% to 70.5% in the structure of all types of renal replacement therapy) , which made it possible to improve the indicators of the physical and psychomotor development of this group of patients, as well as their social rehabilitation.
Dynamic monitoring of children from all over the republic who have undergone kidney transplantation and are receiving renal replacement therapy has been organized. Currently, 100 kidney transplants have been successfully performed for children aged 3 to 18 years. The clinic participates in the formation of the Republican Unified Register of Transplantation.
Methods of chronic and acute peritoneal dialysis in children with renal failure have been introduced and successfully used, which made it possible to save the life of infants and young children. The proportion of automatic peritoneal dialysis in the structure of patients with chronic PD was 90%, which significantly increased the quality of life of patients, providing children with independence, important social adaptation to school and social life.
One of the bases of the department is the Healthcare Institution “Children's Infectious Diseases Hospital of Minsk” - the largest children's hospital in the Republic of Belarus. The staff of the department supervise patients with respiratory diseases, pathology of the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular pathology. For diagnostics and treatment, the most modern methods are used: X-ray computer diagnostics, immunological, cultural methods, bronchoscopy.
Employees of the department performing medical and consulting work in neonatal hospitals (Municipal Clinical Maternity Hospital No. 2 in Minsk, State Institution “Republican Scientific and Practical Center“ Mother and Child ”) use modern high-tech techniques in the treatment and nursing of newborns. Thanks to the use of surfactant substitution therapy and advanced technologies of respiratory support (HF mechanical ventilation, CPAP), mortality among premature infants from RDS and BPD has been reduced. They are engaged in the problems of nursing deeply premature babies, modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of pathological conditions in newborns.
On the basis of the RPNTs, advanced methods of prevention and treatment of newborn children are being actively introduced. Great success has been achieved in the treatment and care of premature babies. The survival rate of children with extremely low birth weight (less than 1000 grams) in 2014 was 82%. The active use of methods of preventive early surfactant therapy, non-invasive methods of ventilation of the lungs has significantly reduced the incidence of severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia in premature infants. Also, the methods of developing care for children with various pathologies are constantly being improved. Among the latest rehabilitation technologies, it is necessary to note restorative massage, music therapy.
Employees of the 1st Department of Pediatric Diseases carry out advisory work in the pediatric department for newborns, the pediatric department for premature babies, the infectious diseases department of newborns, the pediatric department for newborns with perinatal pathology of the nervous system, They also constantly participate in scientific and practical conferences, seminars, events for parents of newborns, conducted on the basis of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center. Several student research papers are carried out annually on topical topics of neonatology.
