Visit of the State Corporation “Rosatom” to Belarusian State Medical University
On April 28, a significant event took place at the university: a visit of a delegation from the State Corporation “Rosatom”, consisting of Sergey Surov, Director of Radionuclide Products and Nuclear Medicine at Rosatom Nauka JSC, and Irina Svyato, Advisor to the Director General of Rosatom Nauka JSC, PhD in Chemistry.
The guests' visit began with a meeting with the Rector of Belarusian State Medical University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Rubnikovich. The meeting was also attended by Vice-Rector for International Relations Dmitry Chuikov, Professor of the Department of Normal Anatomy Vasili Roudenok, and Head of the Department of International Relations Varvara Boiko.
The agenda of the negotiations also covered the priority areas of partnership, including nuclear medicine, theranostics, and the use of additive technologies. The key topic was development of cooperation in the field of nuclear medicine, which unites medicine, nuclear physics, and chemistry to train highly qualified specialists and development of scientific research. In addition, the prospects for cooperation in the use of additive technologies (3D printing) in dentistry for the rapid creation of high-precision individual products were aslo discussed: temporary crowns, bridges, surgical templates, orthodontic mouth guards, and diagnostic models for use in the educational process at the university's dental departments.
The visit culminated in a lecture seminar on nuclear medicine for students, interns, and clinical residents, with the participation of faculty from the departments of oncology, advanced training, and retraining, as well as radiation diagnostics and radiation therapy. To reach a wider audience, there was organized an online broadcast of the seminar, with participation from Vitebsk State Order of Peoples' Friendship Medical University, Grodno State Medical University, and Gomel State Medical University.
The seminar was opened by Vice-Rector for International Relations Dmitry Chuikov and Vice-Rector for Research Mikhail Revtovich.
Sergey Surov, Director of Radionuclide Products and Nuclear Medicine of Rosatom Science JSC, introduced the audience with the work of the Scientific Division of Rosatom State Corporation, which currently encompasses 12 research institutes, over 700 unique experimental facilities, and nine research nuclear reactors. Rosatom Science JSC has been managing the Scientific Division since 2011, implementing various projects in energy, healthcare, ecology, and the use of new materials (additive manufacturing, etc.).
Irina Svyato, Advisor to the Director General of Rosatom Nauka JSC and a PhD in Chemistry, spoke about the use of radiopharmaceuticals in oncology. The report presented information on the main trends in the development of radiopharmaceuticals, information on radiopharmaceutical drugs, and a description of the dynamics of the radiopharmaceutical market in the diagnostic and therapeutic segments.
The seminar generated genuine interest from the audience: students and faculty actively engaged the lecturers in a variety of questions, and during the lively discussion, students were able to delve deeper into the issues surrounding nuclear medicine in modern diagnostic and therapeutic practice.
Even after the seminar concluded, representatives of the student scientific society, the departments of radiation diagnostics and radiation therapy, and oncology with advanced training and retraining courses did not miss the opportunity to personally communicate with the guests.
Belarusian State Medical University expresses its gratitude to Sergey Surov and Irina Svyato for such interesting and useful material, the opportunity for professional communication, and the establishment of cooperation on a topic so relevant to our country and healthcare!
