Visit of the delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Belarusian State Medical University
On the 15th of June, Belarusian State Medical University hosted a high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran, who arrived to discuss strategic areas of bilateral cooperation in medical education. The visit was headed by Mr. Davood Rustai, an academic adviser whose area of expertise includes overseeing the issues related to the Iranian students who undergo training in Russia, Belarus, and Central Asia. The delegation also included Second Secretary of the Iranian Embassy in Belarus, Reza Shahbazi, who is responsible for educational affairs.
From the side of the University, the participants of the meeting was represented by: Vice-Rector for International Relations Dmitry Chuikov, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for International Students Oleg Ishutin, Dean of the Faculty of Career Guidance and Pre-University Training Nikita Kulak, and Head of the Center for Professional Training at Clinical Residency and Internship Yulia Kupriyanovich.
The meeting focused on the practical aspects of attracting and training Iranian citizens. The parties talked about the current admission procedures at BSMU, paying particular attention to the transparency and clarity of each stage for international applicants. The key issue was developing effective mechanisms to coordinate Iranian students throughout their entire educational process — from the first days of adaptation to the new academic and cultural environment to successful graduation. There was also discussion about interactions with intermediary firms that recruit and subsequently support Iranian applicants, which allows for the development of a more reliable and controlled recruiting system. A special attention was paid to the issue of recognition of BSMU diploma in Iran, since this is a fundamental condition for the professional development of graduates in their home country. The meeting participants also touched our university's position in international rankings, emphasizing that objective indicators of the university's success are critical to maintaining its attractiveness to potential students from Iran.
The discussion of prospects went far beyond the current reception. The parties initiated a dialogue on launching joint educational programs with leading Iranian medical universities, which will take cooperation to a qualitatively new level and create a unique academic trajectory for students from both countries. In addition, the possibility of providing Iranian students with grants for study at BSMU was considered, which would provide a significant additional incentive to attract the most talented and motivated young people. The visit clearly confirmed our mutual interest in a long-term, systemic partnership based on trust and shared goals in training highly qualified medical personnel.
Belarusian State Medical University remains open to expanding cooperation and confirms its commitment to providing Iranian students with high-quality medical education that meets the highest international standards.
