Student Science Without Borders: BSMU Hosts International Student Scientific Readings on Current Issues in Endodontics

On 3 September, Belarusian State Medical University hosted a landmark event for student dental research, bringing together young researchers and leading specialists from medical universities in Belarus, Russia, and Moldova.

The joint meeting of student scientific societies brought together representatives of the Departments of Periodontology, Dental Propaedeutics and Materials Science, and Endodontics of BSMU, as well as colleagues from Samara State Medical University (Department of Therapeutic Dentistry with a Course in Osteopathy), Privolzhsky Research Medical University (Department of Dentistry of the Faculty of Additional Professional Education), Saratov State Medical University, and representatives from Moldova, who joined the meeting online.

The meeting was traditionally opened by Yulia Denisova, Professor of the Department of Periodontology of BSMU; Vasylina Andreeva and Ruslan Mekhtiev, Associate Professors; Mikhail Postnikov, Professor; Svetlana Gazhva, Professor; and Larisa Ostrovskaya, Professor. In their welcoming remarks, they wished all participants a productive meeting and inspiring scientific discussions.

The topic of the meeting, "Current Issues in Modern Endodontics," was chosen for a reason. Endodontics remains one of the most rapidly developing and technically demanding fields of dentistry, requiring specialists to possess in-depth knowledge of anatomy and to master modern diagnostic and treatment techniques.

Varvara Pologeyenko, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Dentistry of BSMU, delivered a presentation entitled "Evaluation of Temperature Changes on the External Root Surface during Ultrasonic Removal of a Separated Endodontic Instrument Fragment." The study was carried out under the supervision of Vasylina Andreeva, Head of the Department of Endodontics of BSMU, Associate Professor.

The second presentation was delivered by Alina Tsyretarova, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Dentistry of BSMU, who presented her research entitled "The Potential of Cone-Beam Computed Tomography in Assessing the Anatomy of the Roots and Root Canals of Mandibular Molars." The research was supervised by Ruslan Mekhtiev, Head of the Department of Dental Propaedeutics and Materials Science of BSMU, Associate Professor.

As many years of experience in organizing international student scientific meetings at BSMU have shown, such events provide an excellent platform for lively discussions, the exchange of experience, and the generation of new scientific ideas. Student scientific readings promote research among undergraduate students and encourage their active involvement in scientific activities.

Joint meetings of student scientific societies contribute to the development of clinical thinking, public presentation skills, and the ability to engage in scientific discussion. The international format also enables students to learn from colleagues at other universities and expand their professional network.

The organizers and participants outlined plans for future meetings, which will focus on the most important issues in modern dentistry.

Lively discussions with international colleagues, presentations of cutting-edge research, and the opportunity to ask questions of leading specialists made the meeting of the Student Scientific Society a true gateway to new knowledge and professional competencies.
