BSMU Strengthens Cooperation with China in the Field of Traditional Medicine
From 16 to 18 September, the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on Traditional Medicine was held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, People's Republic of China. As part of the continued development of Belarusian-Chinese cooperation in this field, Elena Sushchenia, Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine with a Course of Advanced Training and Retraining at Belarusian State Medical University, Candidate of Medical Sciences, participated in the Forum.
At the session "Dialogue on Education in Traditional Medicine," she delivered two presentations devoted to the prospects of joining International Educational Alliance for Modern Technologies of Chinese Medicine and to opportunities for the integration of educational systems.
As Head of the Chinese-Belarusian Center for Traditional Chinese and Integrative Medicine, which was established on 12 June 2026 at the Healthcare Institution "Polyclinic of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus," Elena Sushchenia also took part in the signing ceremony of the agreement on joining the International Educational Alliance for Modern Technologies of Chinese Medicine. The initiative is aimed at promoting the standardization of traditional Chinese medicine.
In addition, from 14 to 24 September, Associate Professor Elena Sushchenia led a group of Belarusian physicians specializing in reflexology and rehabilitation, who completed a professional training programme in traditional Chinese medicine technologies at Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine. As part of the programme in the People's Republic of China, the Belarusian delegation visited leading medical institutions where traditional medicine is successfully integrated with modern approaches to the treatment and prevention of diseases.
Participation in the SCO Forum and the professional training programme will further strengthen scientific and educational ties between Belarus and China, promote the development of integrative medicine, and facilitate the introduction of best practices in traditional Chinese medicine into the training of medical professionals.
