BSMU Rector Pays a Working Visit to the People's Republic of China

From 14 to 18 September, Sergey Rubnikovich, Rector of Belarusian State Medical University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, visited a number of medical educational, research, and clinical institutions in the People's Republic of China. The visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between Belarus and China in medical education and science in accordance with Directive No. 9 (2026) of the President of the Republic of Belarus of 12 May 2026 "On the Practical Implementation of the All-Weather and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China."

As part of the visit programme, the Rector of BSMU participated in the 2026 International Conference on Industry–University–Research Cooperation (Three Northeastern Provinces and One Autonomous Region), dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Jilin University.

During the conference, Sergey Rubnikovich presented the achievements of Belarusian State Medical University in education, medical science, healthcare, and international cooperation. He also delivered a presentation entitled "Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry: Global Experience and the National Development Strategy in the Republic of Belarus."

Participation in the conference provided an opportunity to exchange experience with Chinese colleagues on current issues of practice-oriented medical education, the implementation of scientific projects, and the organization of continuing medical education.

On the sidelines of the conference, working meetings were held with the Head of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Deputy Head of the Department of Education of Jilin Province. The discussions focused on cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine, rehabilitation, and other areas of mutual interest.

The Rector of BSMU also held negotiations with Professor Leng Xianyang, President of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine, on the development of bilateral cooperation. The parties discussed academic and scientific collaboration, the implementation of joint educational and research projects, academic mobility of students and academic staff, the organization of joint conferences, and other areas of inter-university cooperation.

Following the negotiations, a framework agreement on strategic cooperation was signed between Belarusian State Medical University and Changchun University of Chinese Medicine. In addition, the parties signed an agreement on joint research into the use of traditional medicine in cardiology. The agreement provides for cooperation between the Department of Pharmacy Organization with a Course of Advanced Training and Retraining and the Department of Cardiology and Internal Diseases of BSMU and their counterparts at the First Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine.

During the visit, the Rector of BSMU also held negotiations on establishing cooperation with the Director of the First Hospital of Jilin University (Bethune), after which the parties signed an agreement on academic and scientific cooperation and exchange.

The visit programme also included visits to Changchun Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University. The purpose of these visits was to familiarize the delegation with the organization of medical and dental care services.

The visit to the People's Republic of China contributed to strengthening BSMU's ties with its Chinese partners in the academic and scientific fields. It also provided an opportunity to exchange experience in organizing medical education and the work of university hospitals.
