BSMU discussed prospects of cooperation with the Graduate School of Medicine of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University

On May 21, there was held a working meeting at Belarusian State Medical University between the administration of BSMU and director of the Graduate School of Medicine of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Professor Sergey Korenev.

The distinguished guest was welcomed by Yuri Sokolov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs; Dmitry Chuikov, Vice-Rector for International Relations; Mikhail Revtovich, Vice-Rector for Research; Vasili Roudenok, Professor of the Department of Normal Anatomy; and Varvara Boyko, Head of the Department of International Relations.

At the beginning of the meeting, Yuri Sokolov made a report about the structure and main areas of activity of Belarusian State Medical University. Professor Sergey Korenev, in turn, gave a brief presentation of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, outlining the key competencies of the Graduate School of Medicine.

During the discussion of prospects for bilateral cooperation, there were considered the following issues:

· Student mobility – semester exchange of students (6th semester of study);

· Educational and methodological exchange – exchange of curricula in specialties of higher medical education;

· Practical training – organization of summer internships for students at clinical sites of hospitals and clinics in Kaliningrad and Minsk;

· Residency – implementation of modern educational programs for clinical residents based on the best practices of two universities;

· Academic mobility of faculty members – with an emphasis on areas such as neurology and psychiatry;

· Scientific cooperation – joint research projects in the field of medical genetics.

There was organized a tour around the Educational and Scientific Center of BSMU for the honored guest. Professor Sergey Korenev got acquainted with the center's facilities and organization, highly appreciating the equipment and the level of training of its specialists.

The meeting confirmed the universities' mutual interest in developing of a long-term partnership. The implementation of the initiatives will open new opportunities for students, residents, and faculty at both universities and strengthen scientific and educational ties between Minsk and Kaliningrad.
