Realizing activities for ideological and educational work at the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Belarusian State Medical University is carried out with the aim of enhancing the creative activity and self-realization of young citizens of the Republic of Belarus, instilling in them respect and love for our state, and improving the professional level of students.
Examples from the history of the older generation of the department staff instill a sense of patriotism and love for the Motherland.
In accordance with the annual approved plan of ideological and educational work, teachers of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics, during lectures and practical classes, pay special attention to the ideology of the modern Belarusian state.
During practical classes, the teachers of the department pays particular attention for the conversations in student groups on topics of legal and moral education.
Particular attention in the educational process at the department is occupied by the issues of improving the quality of doctor's training, culture of work and professional activity, medical ethics and deontology, increasing the personal motivation of each student to master theoretical material and acquire practical skills within the discipline being studied. The result of this work is to increase the interest of students in the independent mastering of educational material, obtaining additional practical skills by attending evening shifts.
The teachers of the department carry out conversations and discuss personal experiences to contribute the formation of stereotypes of a healthy lifestyle among young people. Attention is paid to the issues of prevention of nicotine, alcohol and drug addiction among students, prevention of HIV infection.
Ethical and aesthetic education helps to expand the personal horizons of a young specialist not only as a doctor, but also as a versatile personality, a citizen of his state with an active life position.
Conversations held with students are aimed to the formation of ethical and aesthetic culture among future doctors as an integral part of the general cultural development of the individual.
An essential question of the formation of the personal responsibility of young people before society and the state is a conscious approach to creating a family, having children. In connection with the last question, the question of a healthy lifestyle is acquiring a new emotional coloring and semantic content.
Agitation of youth students is organized and aimed at the active participation in the public life of the university, as well as the republican youth organization of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union.
The teaching staff of the department pays special attention to the issues of social and psychological support for students from single-parent families, disabled people.
Currently, the educational process is almost impossible without the use of modern multimedia information technologies. Considerable attention is paid to this issue at the department. Lectures of the department staff are presented in the form of multimedia presentations. In the process of practical training, visual information is also presented in the form of multimedia presentations, educational films. The possibilities of providing visual information for students have significantly expanded after the reconstruction of the department's premises and the use of multimedia facilities and the local computer network of the clinic, which significantly increases the quality of understanding and assimilation of the proposed educational material.
At classes, as well at the meetings of the Council of the department, students learn to plan and teamwork, inorder to improve the quality of research work.
Every month, the teaching staff of the department participates in the preparation and conduct of a single day of information on the topics offered by the information and analytical center under the administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
One of the most important components of educational work is the visit by the staff of the department of students in the assigned rooms of the hostel №6.
Within the framework of civil-patriotic education, the following is carried out:
- Discussion of political events in our country and abroad;
- Carrying out days of informing;
- Education of patriotism, respect for the symbols of the Republic of Belarus based on the state ideology.

The upbringing of labor and professional activities supposes the formation of professional responsibility and assistance in the acquisition of practical knowledge, skills and the ability to apply them by students.
Formation of a healthy lifestyle, ecological culture:
- Introduction to the practical course on eye diseases, students learn the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco smoking on the organ of vision;
- Conversations are held on the topic: 'Promotion of a healthy lifestyle on the personal example of a future doctor';
- Visual acuity is checked for all students in study groups, consultation, selection of spectacle correction for students with refractive errors;
- Education of value motivations of ecological character.
Spiritual and moral education and the formation of a culture of family relations
Information and educational conversations on the topics: the attitude of the individual to love and marriage, responsible attitude to the object of love, ethics of family relations, modern student family, prevention of family conflicts, motherhood and fatherhood, family traditions, etc.
