In the structure of the university one of the oldest departments of the university is assigned to the medical faculty. The following bases are currently used to train students: health care institutions «6th city clinical hospital' (main base), «5th city clinical hospital», «11th city clinical hospital». All bases are situated in Minsk.
Over the past five years number of students studying at the university and the number of students studying in English was increased.
The results of the work of the department for five years are satisfactory. Comprehensive measures to improve educational services and improve their quality turned out to be effective. Over the course of many years of work, the ratio of teaching hours has been methodically substantiated: lectures, practical classes, industrial practice, the sequence of studying the discipline provided for by the curriculum for specialties.
The bases assigned for practical training have all specialized departments for solving problems of teaching students. The long-term successful work with students of the medical, dental and faculties of medicine, the medical faculty of foreign students is positively assessed by the employees of the dean's offices. The compliance of the organization and implementation of the practice with the requirements of regulatory documents is checked by the educational department of BSMU.
«Propaedeutic of Internal Diseases»
This discipline is studied at the 2nd and 3rd courses of the Faculty of General Medicine, and is also taught in English for International students.
The purpose of studying the propaedeutic of internal diseases is to form students and acquire scientific knowledge about the methods of researching a healthy and sick person, the mechanisms of the onset of symptoms and syndromes in the most common diseases of internal organs, diagnosis, principles of prevention and treatment of diseases.
The tasks of teaching the discipline are to form social, personal and professional competence, the basis of which is knowledge and application of: methods of researching a healthy and sick person in compliance with the norms of medical ethics and deontology; methods for analyzing the clinical picture of the most common diseases of inner organs that contribute to the formation of clinical thinking; protocols of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus on the treatment of the most common diseases of inner organs.
The tasks of studying the discipline are to acquire academic competence by students, the basis of which is the ability to independently search for educational and information resources, master the methods of acquiring and comprehending knowledge:
- basic concepts of the international classification of diseases;
- risk factors, causes, mechanisms of development and outcomes of the most frequent diseases of organs and systems;
- the most important manifestations of typical forms of the most common diseases of internal organs, elements of logic and semiotics of diagnosis;
- risk factors, principles of prevention and pathogenetic therapy of the most common diseases of inner organs and systems.
«Internal illnesses»
«Internal Medicine» for the specialty 1-79 01 07 Dentistry is studied by students of the 3rd course. The discipline is taught in both Russian and English.
The purpose of teaching and studying the discipline «Internal Medicine» is to form students and acquire scientific knowledge about the methods of patient examination and syndromic diagnosis; methods of prevention and treatment of major diseases of inner organs.
The objectives of teaching the discipline are to form social, personal and professional competence, the basis of which is the knowledge and application of: methods of researching a healthy and sick person while observing the norms of medical ethics and deontology that contribute to the formation of clinical thinking; semiotics, syndromic diagnostics, principles of treatment and prevention of major diseases of inner organs.
The tasks of studying the discipline are the acquisition of academic competence by students, the basis of which is the ability to independently search for educational and information resources, master the methods of acquiring and comprehending knowledge:
- fundamentals of clinical diagnostics of internal diseases;
- causes (etiology), mechanisms of development (pathogenesis), risk factors, clinical picture, diagnosis, prevention and basic principles of treatment of diseases of internal organs proceeding in a typical form.
«Medical care and practical skills»
«Medical care and manipulation technique» is taught for the specialty 1-79 01 01 General medicine, studied in the 2nd and 3rd courses.
Available in both Russian and English.
The purpose of teaching and studying the fundamentals of the discipline is to acquire systematic knowledge by students on medical care for patients, teaching the technique of performing nursing medical and diagnostic manipulations, conducting sanitary-hygienic and sanitary-anti-epidemic measures.
The department teaches the training practice «Nursing» (for the 2nd year) and supervises the passage of the industrial practice «Nursing with manipulative techniques» (after the 3rd year) for the specialty 1-79 01 01 General Medicine. After passing the practical training «Nursing with manipulative technique», students take the OSKE (objective structured clinical examination).
The department has developed electronic educational and methodological complexes for all taught disciplines both in Russian and in English. For the successful development of the above disciplines for each practical lesson, the department staff prepared guidelines for internal use for students and teachers. These guidelines contain goals and objectives as well as control questions and a block of information for teachers and students on electronic media.
