Educational and Methodological Work of Pediatric Infectious Diseases with Advanced Training Courses and Retraining

The Department provides teaching of the academic discipline «Pediatric Infectious Diseases» for 5th year students of the Pediatric Faculty, sub-residents of the Pediatric Faculty, General Medicine Faculty and Medical Faculty for International Students, 4th year students of General Medicine, Preventive Medicine and Military Medicine Faculties, Medical Faculty for International Students of the Belarusian State Medical University.

The teaching of the discipline «Pediatric Infectious Diseases» is carried out at the Pediatric, General Medicine, Military Medicine and Preventive Medicine Faculties in accordance with the curriculum of higher educational institution in the educational discipline for the specialties: 1-79 01 01 «General Medicine», 1-79 01 02 «Pediatrics, 1-79 01 03 «Preventive medicine».

Training in English is held since 2015 at the department.

During the course of studying students get acquainted with the regime and work of all units of the «City Сhildren's Infectious Diseases Hospital», master and improve practical skills in Pediatric Infectious Diseases under the guidance of experienced teachers. Particular attention is paid to the training of theoretical and practical skills to provide emergency care for children with infectious diseases, as well as their further application in the individual professional work.

The all lecture materials are presented in the multimedia presentations and video lectures. The case studies are actively practiced in practical classes in addition to the traditional forms of studying: lectures, patient curation and clinical analysis of patients.

In order to optimize the educational process the department has developed guidelines for students, as well as electronic educational and methodological complexes (EEMCs) in «Pediatric Infectious Diseases» for all faculties in accordance with the typical programs for 4th, 5th and 6th year students in the Moodle system. EEMCs allow students to prepare perfectly well for each class, to carry out an individual search for additional information within the topic framework using the indicated links; to check the assimilation of the topic using self-control tests, to develop the foundations of clinical thinking in problem solving with case studies.

Every year the lecture course and practical classes are supplemented with relevant information reflecting the modern achievements of medical science and technology.

The preparation and conducting of annual student conferences and / or clinical reviews are one of the forms of student individual work.

The current certification in the discipline «Pediatric Infectious Diseases» for 5th year students of the Pediatric Faculty is carried out in the form of an exam in the 10th semester, for students of other faculties - in the form of credit.

The department has developed an elective course «HIV / AIDS infection in children».

Every year several clinical residents are trained at the department, which improve their knowledge of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
