On September 18-21, 2018, in one of the most beautiful cities in southern Germany - Munich, the 24th Congress of the European Association of Cranio-Maxillo-Fasial Surgery (EACMFS) was held.

During the Congress 48 lectures were delivered (24 - by active members of EACMFS and 24 - by guests of EACMFS); there were 50 sections: 47 sessions were with oral presentation and 3 were posters.

There were many good friends and colleagues among the delegates who were well acquainted from the National Congress “Parins’ lectures”. Among them: Professor J. P. Menengo (Paris, France); Professor M. Galie (Rome, Italy); Professor S. Scarsella (Lacula, Italy); Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor V.A. Malanchuk (Kiev, Ukraine); Professor A.V. Kopchak (Kiev, Ukraine); Professor A.Yu. Drobyshev (Moscow, Russian Federation); Professor Yu.A. Medvedev (Moscow, Russian Federation); Professor A.V. Schipsky (Moscow, Russian Federation); Professor E. Leibur (Estonia); Professor E. Akota (Latvia).

Meetings and communication of good friends and colleagues gave a new impetus to the development of the specialty, gave birth to many new thoughts and ideas for carrying out trials. Moreover, these friendly meetings and communication were a good example for the nearby young people - students, demonstrating the possibility of communication outside borders and outside politics, in an atmosphere of friendship and absolute trust, which is so inherent in the specialty of a doctor and even more so a surgeon.

The most significant issues at the congress were:

  • orthognathic surgery (8 sections);
  • oral surgery / implantology (5 sections);
  • cleft lip and palate (4 sections);
  • oncology of the head and neck (7 sections);
  • malpharmacy (1 section);
  • surgery of deformities of the facial skull (4 sections);
  • reconstructive maxillofacial surgery (8 sections);
  • trauma at the maxillofacial region (4 sections);
  • aesthetic, cosmetic and plastic maxillofacial surgery (1 section);
  • temporomandibular joint pathology (3 sections);
  • infectious and inflammatory processes / osteonecrosis (2 sections).

Lectures, reports and posters presented in these forums aroused the greatest number of questions, discussions and discussions from the audience outside the work of the sections, which emphasized the undoubted interest of the audience, and, consequently, the need and expediency of their consideration.

Special attention should be paid to the fact that for the first time the issues of diagnostics and treatment of malpharmacies were listened to and discussed in a separate meeting. It is also noteworthy that the issues of infectious and inflammatory processes in the maxillofacial region and neck were so topical over the past decades on the territory of the post-Soviet space, before this congress at the EACMFS forums, as a rule, they were considered in the sections devoted to oral surgery. And for the first time, the 24th Congress paid significant attention to them, singling out their discussion in two independent full-length sessions. These facts not only confirm the growing interest of specialists in these issues, but also convince them of their increasing relevance on a European scale, which is of great importance for the prospects and planning of further joint developments, research programs and training of specialists, the process of improving their qualifications on the scale of a common European home for disciplines “Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery ” and specialties.

The delegation of the Republic of Belarus consisted of three persons: the head of the Department of Oral Surgery of the educational institution “Belarusian State Medical University”, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor I.O.
