SSC history:
SSC in English within the Department of Foreign Languages of BSMU was organized in 2003. The head of the circle is senior lecturer Prostotina O.V.
Principles of work of SSC:
The student scientific circle of the English language brings together students to organize their research work in the field of medicine and the English language.
In general, the activities of the student scientific circle are carried out within the framework of the university student scientific society and are aimed at:
- Developing students’ sustainable skills of independent research work.
- Organization of active participation of students in scientific conferences, review-competitions of student scientific works.
- Assistance in the publication and implementation of the results of student scientific work into practice.
- Increasing the theoretical level and practical significance of research work carried out by students
The tasks of the general education profile are also solved:
- Assistance in improving the quality of training of specialists and mastering modern achievements of medical science.
- Development of students' creative thinking and approach to solving practical issues.
- Expansion of the theoretical horizons and scientific erudition of the future specialist.
- Assistance in in-depth study and consolidation of educational material.
The Department of Foreign Languages and the student scientific circle of the English language also contributes to the expansion of international student relations, establishing contacts with medical universities in the CIS countries, as well as far abroad for the exchange of delegations and joint activities.
The activities of the circle:
Analyzing and using foreign sources of literature and the results of their own research, the members of the circle write scientific papers with which they speak at the annual April scientific and practical conference of students and young scientists with international participation “Relevant problems of modern medicine and pharmacy”, other conferences in BSMU and beyond.
At the meetings of the circle, students listen to each other's reports and view multimedia presentations, followed by a collegial discussion of the readiness of works for participation in conferences, correcting errors, answering questions, etc. It is worth noting that proficiency in English, the ability to translate or discuss medical topics on English is definitely necessary for future doctors on their way to becoming professionals.
In May, after the main conference of BSMU, the results of the work of the circle for the year are summed up, the students' performance at the conference, the opinion of the circle members about SSC, proposals for the development of the circle in the future are discussed, the directions of reports for the next year are determined.
The main directions of work of the student scientific circle at the department:
- Problems in the treatment of neuroinfections
- Cardiovascular diseases: aspects of differential diagnosis and modern methods of treatment. Heart disease and nutrition
- Influenza: current state of the problem. Acute respiratory viral infections as a nosological unit in modern society
- Pharmaceutical practice in Belarus and abroad: similarities and differences
- Transplantology: new materials and technologies. Prosthetics
- Stress as one of the main problems of modern society
- Food culture in the context of a healthy lifestyle
- Molecular biology and molecular evolution as promising areas of the medical industry
- New approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
