October 26th a round table on-line conference was organized within the framework of the Belarusian-Chinese cooperation between medical universities. University lecturers, resident doctors from pediatric dentistry, prosthetic dentistry, therapeutic (1st, 2d, 3d) dentistry departments, dental students and students from Faculty for International Students participated in the scientific conference.
A friendly visit of colleagues from Germany
From 09.24.2018 to 09.28.2018 at the 1st Therapeutic Dentistry Department a workshop on modern technologies in dentistry was held within the framework of long-term cooperation with German colleagues (Dr. Horst Thomas Oehme, Lichtenstein, Deutschland Dr. Sebastian Grundmann, Chemnitz Deutschland).
Dr. Sebastian Grundmann reported about endodontic treatment such as machine treatment of root canals with reciproc instruments, methods of activation irrigants etc.
Dr. Horst Thomas Oehme shared about a new direction in dentistry - dental photography. Its application in dental practice makes possible to conduct a thorough examination of the patient, to document the stages and the result of treatment. Attention was focused on certain nuances, for example, the physics of light refraction, accessories for dental photography, protocols for archiving and transferring data, which must be taken into account during working process, etc.
Collaboration with colleagues from Sweden
Within the framework of international cooperation between the Belarusian State Medical Institute and the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm, Sweden) in January 2012, a visit of a Swedish delegation consisting of professor, PhD Anders Gustafsson, PhD Kåre Buhlin and PhD Tommy Linne took place. Professor A. Gustafsson shared about education and scientific research at the Karolinska Institute. PhD Kåre Buhlin reported about relationship between periodontal diseases and the cardiovascular system. Also Anton Witt (assistant professor of the 1st Therapeutic Dentistry Department, a PhD-student at the Karolinska Institute) discussed with supervisors the plan of research work «Clinical, microbiological and immunological effects of antiseptics in periodontal treatment».
In 2014 Anton Witt presented a report on the topic “Dose-dependent cytotoxicity of antiseptics against gingival fibroblasts”. He shared about experience with the culture of gingival fibroblasts and the scientific results about cytotoxicity of polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate (PHMG) in comparison with chlorhexidine.
PhD Kåre Buhlin reported about systematization and clinical manifestations of medications on the oral mucosa (calcium channel blockers, antidepressants, sedatives, cytostatics, anticonvulsants and antiallergic and narcotic drugs).
Employees of the 1st Therapeutic Dentistry Department of BSMU are members of EAOM (European Association of Oral Medicine); IADR (International Association for Dental Research); ORCA (The European Organization for Caries Research).
