The 1st Department of Internal Diseases of the Belarusian State Medical University was organized in 1924 and was located on the basis of the 2nd Hospital in Minsk. Today the department is located at 3 clinical bases: the main clinical base is a multidisciplinary clinical hospital No. 10, additional: the 3rd city clinical hospital and the 11th city clinical hospital.
The department provides training in the specialties 1-79 01 01 «General Medicine» for 4-6-year students of the Faculty of General Medicine, 1-79 01 02 «Pediatrics» for 4-5-year students of the Pediatric Faculty, 1-79 01 03 «Preventive Medicine» For students of the Faculty of Medicine and Prevention. The following disciplines are taught: «Internal Medicine» and «Occupational Diseases». The department is a graduate in the discipline «Internal Medicine».
The research activity of the department is always in unity with pedagogical work - the results of scientific research are used in teaching the disciplines studied at the department. The research tasks have always had a practical orientation and were widely introduced into the practice of medical institutions of the Republic of Belarus.
The medical and consulting activities of the department are regulated by the relevant documents of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian State Medical University. The staff of the department consult patients, make routine medical rounds. In addition, the department carries out outpatient consultative work in the outpatient clinics of the Zavodskoy district of Minsk. Employees of the department are involved in consultations through the Republican Center for the provision of emergency medical care, work as consultants in the teaching and learning center of the educational institution «Belarusian State Medical University».
The staff of the department carry out more than 16,000 consultations of patients annually. All curators of departments have the highest medical category, are candidates and doctors of medical sciences.
