The 103 – year anniversary of Alma Mater

On the 5th and 6th of November, there were held festive events dedicated to the 103-year anniversary of the foundation of Alma Mater. These two days became significant, bringing together students, lecturers and university staff, as well as honored guests who marked an important stage in the history of the university.

As part of this significant date, there were held the grand openings of three named classrooms, dedicated to outstanding personalities in the field of medicine, whose achievements left a deep mark on the development of medical science in Belarus. The events were attended not only by students and lecturers, but also by relatives of prominent scientists. Rector of the university, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Rubnikovich took part in the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of preserving the memory of great figures.

Among the new classrooms were: the classroom named after Vasily Leonov, the founder of the pediatric school in Belarus, Honored Scientist of the BSSR, Academician of the BSSR Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor (auditorium No. 103 of the laboratory building); classroom named after Alexander Klyucharev, Honored Scientist of the BSSR, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Rector of Minsk State Medical Institute (classroom No. 5 of the main building); classroom named after Pyotr Lobko, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor (classroom No. 105 of the laboratory building).

The general meeting of the Youth Law Enforcement Units (MOOP) of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union of Belarusian State Medical University was held at the museum of our university. The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Ideological and Educational Work Denis Chernov together with the Secretary of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union NGO BSMU Vadim Borisyuk. The students proudly received their IDs as MOOP fighters, symbolizing their active participation in the public life of the university and their commitment to maintaining legal order.

The second game of the open intellectual games tournament for the Rector's Cup, dedicated to the Day of the October Revolution, took place in the library's reading room. This year, 26 teams took part, including students from BSU and BSPU. The event was hosted by Alexey Katichev, head of the campus, senior lecturer of the Department of Philosophy and Political Science. The game was bright and dynamic, covering the questions on topics from history to art. The participants actively discussed the answers, creating an atmosphere of a friendly competition.

According to the results of the open tournament, the winners of the Second Game of Intellectual Games for the Rector's Cup at our university were the teams of the Faculty of Medicine “What to do?” (1st place) and “Why?” (2nd place), as well as the team of the pediatric faculty “Little Researchers” (3rd place).

A gala concert dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of our Alma Mater took place in the foyer of the main building. The event brought together many guests, including students, lecturers and university staff wishing to celebrate the important anniversary. The concert was opened by Rector of the university, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Rubnikovich. He warmly congratulated everyone present on this significant date, noting the active and fruitful development of Belarusian State Medical University for more than a century of history.

Musical and creative congratulations were given by: Perpetuum mobile ensemble under the direction of Nina Popravka, vocal group “Kantare” under the direction of Anastasia Tynovets, folk and artistic brigade “Panacea”, folk theater “Med. uni. Tsa" under the direction of Irina Sleptsova and Alexander Zhuk, as well as the folk theater “Aesculapius” under the direction of Vladislav Lovgen. The international choir “Dominanta”, the ballroom dance studio “Elegance” under the direction of Anastasia Zhuravleva and soloists of artistic groups of the student club also took part in the program.

An important part of the concert was the speech given by the Chairman of the Belarusian Trade Union of Health Workers Vyacheslav Shilo, who did not only congratulated the participants on their anniversary, but also presented gift certificates. During the event, he awarded scholarships of the Belarusian Trade Union of Health Workers to students who distinguished themselves by active participation in the life of the industry trade union and high success in educational, research and social activities. Scholarships were received by students of the Pediatric Faculty - Ekaterina Bandorovskaya, Stepan Nenoglyadov and Yulia Taratkevich; Faculty of Dentistry - Elena Barsukova and Anastasia Degoltsova; Faculty of Preventive Medicine – Valeria Bognat; Faculty of Medicine - Vlad Gromyko, Andrey Myadel and Viktor Yakubenok; Faculty of Pharmacy – Denis Dashevich. The scholarships awarded were a testament to the students' diligence and dedication to their work and the university.

The end of the concert was the laying of flowers at the Stella of Memory, dedicated to the lecturers and students of Minsk State Medical Institute who died during the Great Patriotic War. The action carried out by cadets of the Military Medical Institute on behalf of the lecturers and students of BSMU became a symbol of respect for the memory of those who gave their lives for their Motherland.

At the end of the festive events dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of our university, there was held a solemn presentation of research diplomas to graduates of postgraduate and doctoral studies in 2024. This year, diplomas were awarded to 12 doctoral students and 40 graduate students. Rector of the university Sergey Rubnikovich congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their difficult journey and noted that such achievements are available only to the strongest ones. The diplomas were awarded by Rector of the university Sergey Rubnikovich and Vice-Rector for Research, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vasily Filonyuk.

The past events have become a symbol of unity and the pursuit of knowledge, emphasizing that our university not only preserves traditions, but is also actively develops new directions in education and science.
