The organization and work of the Department of General Hygiene (which was called the Department of Experimental Hygiene at the beginning) begins in the 1924-1925 academic year as part of the Medical Faculty of the Belarusian State University.
The current place of the department in the structure of the university is determined by the order of the Rector of the Belarusian State Medical University, according to which the work of the department of General hygiene are assigned to the Faculty of preventive medicine.
At the department of General hygiene for students of every faculties the discipline “General hygiene” is taught (also in English). For the medical-preventive faculty 2 disciplines are taught “General hygiene” and “Nutritional hygiene”, and for students of the pharmaceutical faculty - “Pharmaceutical hygiene”.
At the Department of General Hygiene, graduates are trained in the specialty 1-79 01 03 Medical and preventive work, which provides knowledge of the legal framework of professional activity and preparation for preventive, advisory, sanitary and hygienic, research, teaching, methodological and organizational and managerial practice in the field of strengthening and maintaining the health of the population, prevention, diagnosis of diseases.
