Student Scientific Circle of Endocrinology

The student scientific circle in endocrinology was founded in 1975 on the basis of the 1st Department of Internal Diseases under the leadership of V.P. Lisun-Lobanova. The main areas of scientific activity of Vera Pavlovna were diabetology and thyroid disease. From 1987 to 1995, the  associate professor T.V. Mokhort was leading the Student Scientific Circle (SSC). Her priority research areas included type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome and thyroid disease. From 1999 to 2004, SSC was led by associate professor Z.V. Zabarovskaya. Her areas of scientific interest included diabetes mellitus, new approaches to insulin therapy in diabetes, planning for pregnancy and prenatal care in women with endocrine disorders.

From 2006 to the present, Professor A.P. Shepelkevich is the head of the SSC. Alla Petrovna’s scientific research is dedicated  to the musculoskeletal system disorders in endocrine diseases (hypercortisolism, hyperparathyroidism, type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism). She is the chairwoman of the Belarusian Public Medical Association “Endocrinology and Metabolism”, the Board member of the Belarusian Public Association “Stop Osteoporosis Together”, member of the European Society of Endocrinologists, the International Society of Endocrinology, the International Diabetes Federation, the International Osteoporosis Federation, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, the Belarusian Society of Endocrinologists.

In the 2025/2026 academic year, the chairman of the SSC is a 6th-year student, Ekaterina A. Shepelkevich, whose main interest is comorbid pathology in women with PCOS. She also oversees the endocrinology section at the International Scientific and Practical Conference of Students and Young Scientists.

The meetings of the scientific circle take place monthly at the 1st City Clinical Hospital. Not only Belarusian students, but also ones of the Medical Faculty for International Students widely participate in discussions on hot topics in endocrinology during the meetings. SCC meetings are held in Russian and English.

In 2025, the extensive conference program included 15 reports, 12 of which presented the results of their own research, as well as 3 works in a review and analytical format. A total of 22 students prepared presentations. The conference was held simultaneously in Russian and English, each presentation was accompanied by questions and discussion, sometimes turning into a heated debate.

The Student Scientific Circle is a community which aims to stimulate students educational, scientific and research activities and creativity. We invite all the sincere lovers of endocrinology to our meetings!
