Educational and Methodological Work of Histology, Cytology, Embryology

The department of histology, cytology and embryology is a specialized structural unit of the University which carries out educational and methodological work. The department teaches students studying in the following specialties:

  • 1-79.01.01 «General Medicine»
  • 1-79.01.02 «Pediatrics»
  • 1-79.01.03 «Preventive Medicine»

The study of histology, cytology and embryology is a necessary component of the fundamentally oriented training of medical specialists.  Histology, cytology and embryology is fundamental biomedical discipline that studies the development, structural organization, basics of tissues life and their interaction in the organ's composition. It contains the basic knowledge, which is essential to further studies of other biomedical and clinical disciplines.

To form a deep knowledge among students a sufficient number of educational and methodological materials have been prepared.  The stuff of the department prepared a Textbook of Histology, Cytology, Embryology that received the stamp of the Ministry of Education, Practical Manuals «Histology, Cytology and Embryology» both in Russian and English language for students to work independently, and other tutorials. An electronic Teaching, Learning and Instructional Set (TLIS), including theoretical, practical and auxiliary modules, as well as a knowledge control module, has been developed and posted on the university's website. The purpose of the TLIS is to provide high quality teaching and instructional support of the educational process, which contributes to the training of highly qualified specialists possessing up-to-date knowledge, creative abilities and comprehensive skills. TLIS is constantly being improved and updated.

The department introduces innovative methods of studying histology. Since 1984, a computer class has been actively working at the department, which has shown its effectiveness both in organizing control of the level of students’ knowledge, and in working out missed classes. The staff of the department uses various forms of knowledge control in their work: computer and written tests, and questioning.

A wide range of multimedia presentations with videos has been prepared for lectures, electronic versions of textbooks are offered.

The department is equipped with various teaching aids: microscopes, sets of histological preparations, electron microscopic photographs, atlases, educational tables, TV screens, and computers. The use of various techniques for studying histological preparations including learning under a microscope, with the display of their images on the screen, allows students to create a complete picture of the detail structure of organs.

All the efforts of the teachers of the department are aimed at achieving good results in preparing students in our subject.
