Traumatology and orthopedics is an academic discipline containing systematized scientific knowledge and techniques about etiology, pathogenesis, mechanisms of injury, clinical manifestations, methods of X-ray, laboratory, radioisotope, ultrasound, morphological diagnostics, computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, differential diagnosis, complex conservative and surgical treatment , rehabilitation and prevention of congenital and acquired diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system.

The purpose of studying “Traumatology and Orthopedics”: is developing the students' scientific knowledge about the main injuries, congenital and post-traumatic diseases of the musculoskeletal system in children and adults.

Traumatology and orthopedics are taught at the medical, pediatric, military medical, preventive medicine, and dental faculties. The training is carried out according to the standard curricula developed by the department. In the current academic year, new Curricula have been prepared for each faculty separately, positive reviews have been received, and they have been submitted to the Educational and Methodological Department of the Belarusian State Medical University.

The tasks of studying the discipline are to acquire by students academic competence, the basis of which is the ability to independently search for educational and information resources, master the methods of acquiring and comprehending knowledge.

The department carries out educational, methodological and research work, medical advice, and a student scientific circle.

Currently, the department employs 8 teachers (1 professor, 5 associate professors, 2 assistants). The base of the department is the City Clinical Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics on the basis of the 6th City Clinical Hospital of Minsk, the foundations of which were established by prof. A.S. Kruk.
