Student Scientific Circle of the department of Surgical Diseasess

SSK began to work in 1963. Its first scientific supervisor was Associate Professor V.I.Kosmachev. Subsequently, the scientific leaders of the circle were assistant M.I. Mishenin, associate professors L.Z. Matuzov, V.I.Druzhinin, O.I.Rubachov. The topics of student research papers were scientific topics developed at the department in each of its periods of operation.

Since 2020, the SSK has been headed by Associate Professor Baranov Eugen. Research interests are focused on an integrated approach to the treatment of portal hypertension syndrome, the development of transplantology, cell technologies. Recently, the main directions of student scientific work are also research on the surgical treatment of diseases of the hepato-biliary-pancreatic zone. The department has been running the 'Republican Center for Surgical Hepatology' for decades.

Patients from the regions of the Republic of Belarus are admitted to the surgical departments of the clinical bases of the department for the final verification of the diagnosis, determination of the therapeutic tactics of surgical treatment. This allows SNK members to expand their range of knowledge beyond the curriculum.

The 3rd Wednesday of each month was chosen as the day of the circle's meetings. Annually 10 - 12 students of 3 - 6 courses take part in the work of the Council of People's Commissars. The topics of the meetings are selected in advance and on issues of interest. Reports, multimedia presentations are being prepared, profile patients are being analyzed. Students are on duty with experienced surgeons and teachers of emergency surgery, take part in operations as assistants. Together with the staff of the department, they participate in scientific experiments at the Central Scientific Laboratory of the Belarusian State Medical University. Kruzhkovites attend elective courses in laparoscopic operations.

In February - March, preliminary results of the work of the Council of People's Commissars are summed up in order to determine the readiness of work for participation in the annual scientific conference of students and young scientists of the BSMU and in student scientific conferences of other medical universities of the Republic of Belarus and the CIS countries. Students take an active part in the annual Olympiads in Surgical Diseases with good results.

Participation of students in research activities helps them in the distribution in the chosen specialty. The department actively contributes to the writing of characteristics-recommendations to members of the Council of People's Commissars, which is also taken into account in the distribution.

Many members of the SSK department after graduating from the university defended their dissertations and work as teachers of the departments of surgical diseases (professor Khryshchanovich V.Ya., associate professors Baranov E.V.,  Bolshov A.V., Zhura A.V.), head the departments of large hospitals (Rashchinsky S.M.), some successfully work in the near and far abroad.
