At the department headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences O.A. Skugarevsky, currently there are two laboratory assistants, five assistants, seven associate professors and two professors, nine residents and two graduate students are studying.
The main areas of scientific research at the department: eating disorders, chronobiological research, the development of psychoeducational programs for patients with schizophrenia and their relatives, the study of the primary psychotic episode of the schizophrenic spectrum, the development of an individualized model of medical care for patients with schizophrenia, taking into account pharmacogenetic characteristics, an assessment of the interaction of genetic and environmental factors in the development of cognitive and emotional deficits in patients with schizophrenia, various aspects of chemical and non-chemical forms of addictive behavior.
In addition to scientific work, the employees of the department carry out therapeutic and advisory assistance at the «Republican Research and Practice Center of Mental Health», «City Clinical Children's Psychoneurological Dispensary», professorial and consulting center of the «Belarusian State Medical University» and, as necessary, provide counseling in the medical institutions throughout the Republic.
