About the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is the specialized structural unit of the Belarusian State Medical University and both leading clinical and scientific centre with the combination of health care, teaching and research in the fields of obstetrics, gynecology, perinatology and reproductology.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is currently headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Mozheiko Ludmila, one of the leading obstetricians and gynecologists of the Republic of Belarus. Chairman of the Belarusian Scientific and Practical Public Association “Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Neonatologists”; Chairman of the Thesis Defense Council in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics; Chief Editor of the International scientific and practical peer-reviewed journal “Reproductive Health. Eastern Europe”; Member of the Editorial boards of the Journals “Reproductive health of children and adolescents” (Moscow), “Protection of Motherhood and Childhood (Vitebsk)”; Chairman of the Commission for Clinical Trials in Obstetrics and Gynecology; Member of the Coordinating Council of the “National Demographic Security” program under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus; Member of the Expert Council of the State Committee on Science and Scientific Technologies under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus; Member of the Expert Council on Science and Scientific Technologies in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neonatology, Medical Genetics, Pediatrics of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus.
Training process
The clinical base of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology comprises obstetric and gynecological departments and units at the following medical and preventive institutions: 1st City Clinical Hospital , 5th City Clinical Hospital, 6th City Clinical Hospital, 2nd City Maternity Hospital including both outpatient and inpatient facilities.
Education is an integral part of our mission, along with patient care and research.
We believe that receiving an education in obstetrics and gynecology is crucial for any practicing physician, whether they choose to pursue a career in this specialty or in another field of medicine. We take part in educating future physicians as part of Belarusian State Medical University’s curriculum and offer both required and elective courses.
Main tasks of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology:
- Education and training of obstetricians and gynecologists in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology, training a specialist with basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the diagnosis, therapy and prevention of various complications of pregnancy and childbirth, gynecological diseases
- Improving and development of the system, promoting the students’ initiatives in the scientific and research fields
- Improvement of the obstetric and gynecological services organization of in the Republic of Belarus. Improvement of the work of perinatal centers, development and implementation of modern diagnostic methods, qualified medical and preventive care for women of all age groups, including children ,adolescents and pregnant women

The Belarusian Scientific and Practical Public Association “Association of Obstetricians-Gynecologists and Neonatologists” (Chairman is the head of the Department, Professor L. Mozheyko) is a scientific platform for communication among scientists, postgraduate and international researches and healthcare professionals ensuring a possibility of testing scientific research results, setting new goals and objectives in the new knowledge development and promotion.
During the period of the department's activity, 98 candidate and 11 doctoral dissertations have been defended, 2297 scientific articles, 43 monographs, 35 collections of scientific papers and reference books, 83 teaching aids and textbooks, 67 inventions and rationalization proposals have been published.
