The Department of General Medicine of the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining was organized at Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) on February 15, 2017 according to the Resolution of Belarusian Council of Ministers of March 14, 2016.The department was created due to the demands of social and economic development and improvement of the demographic situation, public health and the accessibility of medical care in the country.

The head of the department is Vadzim Sushynski, MD, PhD, Associate Professor.

The department started its educational activities on April 3, 2017 by conducting an advanced training course «Organization of medical care for patients based on the principle of general practice» for therapists. Since that over 2500 general practitioners were trained at the department in 2017-2022.

The aim of postgraduate education is to improve the professional knowledge and skills in general medical practice including the therapy, endocrinology, neurology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, cardiology, nephrology, outpatient surgery, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, medical psychology, pediatrics and emergency medical care.

The list of postgraduate courses is updated annually. A specialization program in general medical practice for medical doctors is being carried out since 2021.

The academic staff of the department is represented by highly-qualified specialists. The majority of lecturers have the highest qualification category. The department is equipped with modern outpatient diagnostic equipment.

The main office of the department is Minsk outpatient clinic N39. Other clinical offices for postgraduate education: Minsk Hospital N4, outpatient clinic N20, BSMU clinical simulation center.
