Research work of Eye Diseases

Virtual ophthalmological Belarusian-Ukrainian conference «Actual problems of diagnostics and treatment of eye pathology» and Republican telecommunication ophthalmological conference «Topical issues of diagnosis and treatment of eye surface disease» were held in the autumn of 2020 at the department.

From 2016 to 2020 the department’s research topic was «Diagnosis and treatment of the optical apparatus, ocular fundus pathology and disorders of ocular hydrodynamics». During this period 164 printed works were published, 6 patents for inventions were received, 11 instructions for use, 13 rationalization proposals, more than 20 certificates of introduction in the therapeutic process were approved. One thesis for a Candidate's Degree was defended by a foreign post-graduate student from Nigeria.

The national method of photodynamic therapy (PDT) of subretinal neovascular membranes (SNM) in age-related macular dystrophy (AMD) and myopic maculopathy (MM) with photosensitizer photolon (RUE «Belmedpreparaty») and semiconductor laser (LEMT, RB) has been developed and introduced into clinical practice.

Morphometric characteristics of posterior segment of the eye in different age groups of ophthalmologically healthy children are evaluated according to OCT data. New modifications of surgical correction of blepharoptosis with the study of clinical and morphological parallels in the congenital form of the disease have been introduced.

Visit to the Department of Eye Diseases Professor Hollo G. (Hungary), co-author of the «European Guidelines for Glaucoma», 23.03.2018.

The department studies topical issues of diagnostics and treatment of glaucoma, as well as morphometric parameters of the peripapillary retina in glaucoma according to the data of scanning laser polarimetry (SLP) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). It also discusses the aspects of pathogenesis, clinic and treatment of glaucoma with normal intraocular pressure.

In the department the experience of neuroprotective therapy in primary open-angle glaucoma is summarized, structural features of the anterior segment of the eyeball in different forms of glaucoma are studied. Investigations are being conducted into the method of treatment of the eye hydrodynamic disorders - laser selective trabeculoplasty.

New methods of layer-by-layer keratoplasty with the use of an automatic lamellar microkeratome by Moria are being introduced. The results of layer-by-layer and penetrating keratoplasty in surgical rehabilitation of patients with corneal pathology, peculiarities of postoperative course; treatment of scar deformity of anterior segment of the eyeball by keratotomy are studied. The treatment of corneal diseases with autologous limbal stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells of adipose tissue is carried out, based on the clinical and experimental project.

Studies of the effectiveness of treatment of retinal neovascularization with drugs against vascular endothelial growth factor are being conducted.

Matrix tables of contrast optotypes and methods of their application for separate determination of eye resolution and contrast sensitivity by express diagnostics in outpatient settings have been developed and introduced into medical practice.
