Cardiology and Internal Diseases

Our team represents the scientific and pedagogical school «Emergency Сardiology and Preventive Medicine in the Clinic of Internal Diseases». The head of the department and of the scientific school is Professor Natalya Mitkovskaya, director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center «Cardiology».

The scientific interests of our department are in cardiology and internal diseases. Being conducted by our team, the main scientific research of a fundamental and applied nature is devoted to the study of the causes and mechanisms of the development of acute and chronic pathology in patients with comorbidity; to the development of the methods for evaluating and correcting cardiovascular risk in the patients with silent myocardial ischemia and comorbid pathology, in the patients after liver and kidney transplantation; to the development and implementation of technologies for verification and optimization of the treatment of combined chronic and acute pathologies of coronary and cerebral vascular basins; to the substantiation and optimization of the use of extracorporeal technologies in the treatment of connective tissue diseases and severe forms of coronary artery disease.

We carry out our research work and provide with medical and consulting assistance at the main multidisciplinary clinics of the city Minsk, which are: state institutions «Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology», «Republican Scientific and Practical Center «Cardiology», health care institutions «Minsk City Emergency Hospital», «4th City Clinical Hospital named after M.E.Savchenko», «6th City Clinical Hospital» and «1st City Clinical Hospital».

  • Predictors of rethrombosis in the patients with acute coronary syndrome.
  • Diagnostics, prophylaxis, and treatment of silent myocardial ischemia.
  • Comprehensive assessment of cardiovascular risk in the patients with organ and tissue transplantation.
  • Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
  • Metabolic syndrome and multifocal atherosclerosis.
  • Differential diagnosis and pathogenetic therapy of cerebrovascular ischemic complications.
  • Coronary atherosclerosis in the patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Glycemic control in the acute period of transmural myocardial infarction.
  • Liver damage in the patients with systemic connective tissue diseases.
  • Instrumental research methods and treatment of chronic heart failure.
  • Kidney damage in the patients with myocardial infarction.
  • Hormonal and immunological mechanisms of pathogenesis of connective tissue diseases.
  • Early arthritis: problems of diagnosis and basic therapy.
  • Magnetic and ultraviolet modification of blood in the complex treatment of acute coronary syndrome.
  • Secretory activity of adipose tissue in patients with postinfarction cardiosclerosis.
  • Medical and psychological support for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac diseases in persons who are in custody.
  • COVID-19: features of the course, damage to the lungs and cardiovascular system.

The department has six professors, chief cardiologist and chief rheumatologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. The lecturers of the department have received fifteen patents for inventions, more than 1000 articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals. The university medical journal «Emergency Cardiology and Cardiovascular Risks» is being published (editor-in-chief - Professor N.Mitkovskaya), the scientific and educational Internet program «Clinicist.bsmu.by» has been created. The republican public association «Belarusian Society of Cardiologists and Therapists» has been organized. The staff of the department has close contacts with foreign colleagues from the University of Western Ontario in London (Canada), Akita University (Japan), Karolinska University in Stockholm (Sweden), leading universities in Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine. Professor N.Mitkovskaya is the coordinator of the cooperation programs of the Belarusian State Medical University with the University of Western Ontario (Canada) and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Akita (Japan).

We are interested in seminars for the exchange of clinical and scientific experience, joint projects and publications, organization and conduction of scientific conferences.
