The department is headed by Prof., Dr. Med. Alexander Sukalo, who is the only Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (since 2014) at the BSMU.
The department is an integral part of the National Center for Pediatric Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy, National Center for Pediatric Endocrinology, National Scientific and Practical Center Mother and Child.
There are a number of disciplines that are being taught at the department: pediatrics, pediatric oncology and oncohematology, clinical immunology, allergology, clinical pathological physiology, the basics of medical care, polyclinic pediatrics, medical genetics for students of the pediatric faculty (4th to 6th year of study). Pediatrics for students of the medical faculty (4th to 6th year of study).
The main areas of special interest of the department are nephrology, immunology, endocrinology, cardiology, neonatology, gastroenterology and pulmonology. Students undergo the clinical practice course in summer period under supervision of the Department’s Associate and Assistant Professors.
