 The term of study at the Pediatric faculty – 6 years.

The Pediatric faculty was set up in 1964. Practical classes and lectures in medical disciplines are conducted at large children’s clinics of the city under supervision of experienced teachers. 

The establishment of the Pediatric faculty stimulated both training of highly qualified specialists and setting up of clinical bases. In 1996 the 2nd children’s clinic hospital was opened, at the base of which the teaching of propedeutics of children’s diseases and later -the faculty pediatrics was started. The founder of the Chair is Professor I.N. Usov, Honored Scientist, Doctor of Science (Medicine). In 1969 the Chair of Hospital Pediatrics was opened, at first it functioned at the base of the 1st, and then of the 3rd children’s clinic hospital of Minsk. From the middle of 1970-s the teaching staff of pediatric chairs was undergoing annual advanced training at higher medical establishments of Moscow, St-Petersburg, leading foreign medical schools. Increasing of the number of the first-year students promoted setting up of a number of specialized chairs: pediatric surgery, hygiene of children and adolescents, pediatric infectious diseases, pediatric pathologic anatomy, a course of pediatric hematology. 

Active scientific research work is carried out at all chairs. The Republican Pediatric School of Nephrology is set up at the 1st Chair of Children’s diseases, the School of Pulmonology – at the 2nd Chair, the Chair of pediatric surgery studies the problems of sepsis, congenital abnormality of neonates, the Chair of pathologic anatomy – the issues of genetics and early diagnosing of pathologic conditions in children and adolescents.

 High quality of pediatricians trained at BSMU is evidenced by the first team places taken by the members of our faculty at All-Union and Republican Olympiads in pediatrics.

The teaching staff and students of the Pediatric faculty render medical-consultative aid to practical health care institutions. Besides consulting the patients in severe condition at basic clinics, every chair carries on out-patient treatment and provides urgent consultations at regional and district polyclinics. The staff of the Chairs of the Faculty is permanently engaged in social work and popularization of healthy life.

The faculty carries out training in four basic specialties: pediatrics, pediatric surgery, pediatric anesthesiology and reanimatology, pediatric gynecology and obstetrics. The graduates of the Pediatric faculty work as children’s allergologists, immunologists, neurologists, eye-doctors, endocrinologists, adolescents’ gynecologists, cardio-rheumatologists, oncohematologists. The faculty engages 167 permanent workers, 24 of them are Doctors of Science (Medicine), 52 Associate Professors and 92 Ph D (Medicine).

Among them are such famous scientists as Professor L.M. Lobanok, Associate Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus; Professor A.V. Sukalo, Associate Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus; Professors T.N. Voitovich, V.A. Kuvshinnikov, V.A. Kat’ko, A.N. Nikiforov, V.I. Averin, Yu.K. Abaev, 

G.I. Gerasimovich, L.F. Mozheiko, E.D. Cherstvoy, T.A. Birich, L.N. Marchenko, A.I. Kubarko, S.D. Denisov, P.G. Pivchenko, P.I. Lobko, A.S. Fedulov.

Equipped laboratories, academic rooms and auditoria are at the disposal of the students of the Faculty. Practical classes in medical disciplines are conducted at republican centers and best clinics of Minsk.

 

By its scientific, clinic, pedagogical level of the teaching staff, novelty and perspectives of implemented scientific research projects, significance of obtained developments for the practical health care system the Pediatric faculty of the Belarusian State Medical University is a leading establishment not only in the Republic of Belarus but also abroad.
